Pre-race routine:

Slept! Drove through the night on and got to the race sight on Friday afternoon not having slept in 36 hours. Rode the course instead of napping then slept for 11 hours before the race. Probably not the greatest schedule, but that's the workin' (and going to school) man's blues.
Event warmup:

Run, bike swim. Got about 10 minutes of each in. My legs were heavy from all the training I did the week before!
Swim
  • 19m 40s
  • 1094 yards
  • 01m 48s / 100 yards
Comments:

My separated shoulder didn't hold up too well. I had a terrible shooting pain on the first stroke and it didn't get much better after that. I was having a lot of trouble swimming straight, which probably would have been funny to watch. I was SLOW. My second lap was a little better, but not much. I think I'm normally about two minutes faster. Oh well, next time.
What would you do differently?:

Not crash my bike coming down a mountain a week before and separate my shoulder.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Bike
  • 1h 17m 17s
  • 13.67 miles
  • 10.61 mile/hr
Comments:

My legs just didn't have it on the climbs. The 100+ miles I rode and 30+ miles I ran in the week before the race was too much. The three hour brick interval workout I did on Wednesday was probably didn't help either. I did manage to pass people on the climbs, but got smoked on the downhill technical stuff. My one year of mountain biking hasn't really developed my skills much. More single track!
What would you do differently?:

Not train so hard the week before and not skip a night of sleep right before the race.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Run
  • 43m 6s
  • 4.97 miles
  • 08m 40s  min/mile
Comments:

My first lap of the run was great. I caught and passed the guy that took second in my age group, but I lost it on the second climb up the giant hill. I just didn't have it in my legs, once again, because of the training. I turned in a decent run time compared to last year and probably picked up 10 spots overall. Good first lap, bad second lap.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

No rest and too little sleep.

Event comments:

This is an awesome race! I'm going to sleep and not train like an idiot before next year!

Course: Wow, tough course compared to last year. They put in a super technical section for the first two miles, then climb, climb, climb. The cows (yes, cows) really rutted the last couple miles up and made it tough. Cool course, though. Technical, but fun. A lot of climbing and a little scary at times, but no real threat of dying!
