Swim
Comments: I made it through this with determination and some preparation. What would you do differently?: The only thing I can do differently is train better, push myself more, and learn to be efficient with power and energy. Transition 1
Comments: I really had no idea what to expect. It didn't feel like I took that much time. What would you do differently?: 1. Not wear gloves 2. Get clip cleats instead of using toe clips. Bike
Comments: It was a good ride for my first triathlon. My mouth got so dry I was licking my moustache for moisture until I got to a place I could take a real drink. I did get some really great speed during the downhill sections. At one point my top speed was 35 mph. What would you do differently?: I have to say that practicing basic cycling skills will be the key for me. Shifting is something I am struggling with but am definately working on. Transition 2
Comments: Pinning my race number on was the difficulty. What would you do differently?: Spend the $7 for a race belt. Run
Comments: I gave in to the pain in my legs and was able to intermittently talk myself in/out of it. I'd run until I just didn't think I could and then walk until I could make myself run. What would you do differently?: This is an area I really need a lot of work on. I have got to train smarter and work on efficiency. I attribute my poor performance to poor training. I wanted to participate in this event to prove to myself that I could. Well, I did it. Next year, I'll do it better, smarter, and quicker. Post race
Warm down: I just walked until my heart rate settled down. What limited your ability to perform faster: Giving in to my pain. For moments I was truly able to convince myself that the pain was merely temporary. It worked for a little bit and then the pain came back. I had shin splints when training and so I was advised not to run until race day. Big mistake. Event comments: This was the perfect course for my first triathlon. It was a good event. My partner came with me and really isn't a sports person so it made trying to enjoy the post race activities difficult. Last updated: 2007-07-28 12:00 AM

What routine? I've never done this before. I arrived 1 hour before start time, checked in, and set up my transition area.
I stretched a bit just to loosen up and then had a quick easy swim.
