Pre-race routine:

Got up around 4am, puttered about getting ready, then had a last minute work emergency that gave me a little bit of a late start. Drove like a bat out of hell and still got there about 5 minutes before I needed to be. :)
Event warmup:

Packet pickup, porta-potty, meet up with CindyK, porta-potty, meet up with Whizzzzz and JNiekrazs and trip back to car, porta-potty, gel and shorty warm-up run.

Yup, lotta porta-potty time. :)

Comments:

Not a bad run. Because of my still-puffy ankle, went into it knowing that I wasn't going to PR. And after I saw the crowd of women that we had to work our way though, I was quite positive that it wasn't going to happen!

Met up with Jess (JNiekrasz) and found out that she was planning on starting out with 8:30 m/m pace. Sounded good to me, so I attached myself to her hip. :) Hope she didn't mind!

First mile was an obstacle course - seeded too far back and there were tons o' women to get around to get some running room. Really, up until the course split at around the 2 mile mark, it was crowded.

After the first mile, we settled into our pace, with Jess doing an awesome job at keeping us right where we needed to be. The entire run felt difficult to me, though I've run 10k's faster than this before.

Right after mile 4, Jess told me she was stopping and to go ahead - without thinking, I just kept running... about 100m after that, I felt bad when I realized I didn't even ask if she were okay! Hoping she was, I just kind of kept putting one foot in front of another.

Last two miles were uneventful, though my ankle was starting to complain a little after stepping on some uneven ground. And the humidity! Oh my. I was completely drenched out there, even though it was probably only about 80 degrees and there was a breeze off the lake.

Beautiful day for a run!! The view along the lakefront was gorgeous -- really made me glad that CindyK suggested that we meet up to do this one!
What would you do differently?:

Not much. I ran the race I wanted to, for the most part.
Post race
Warm down:

Watched JNiekrasz, CindyK and Whizzzzz come in, and then met up with Whizzzz's sister and walked around the park a little. Then - off to breakfast! Went to Ann Sather's.. I hung out with the BT group for awhile until my college friends showed up. Tons of fun!!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Ankle and humidity.

Event comments:

This was a fun race! Well organized and everything was on time. Lots of runners -- there was also a 5k at the same time -- and that made for some congestion on the course, but that didn't take away from the fact that it was a scenic course, with plenty of drink stations. Oh - and chip-timed! Nice for a 5k/10k race.
