Swim
Comments: Was able to get comfortable on the swim right away which was good after struggling so bad at SD International. Breathing every 3rd stroke until the return trip back to beach after the 2nd bouy, I just started to lose concentration probably due to fatigue. Ran up the hill and all the way into transition. As I crossed the street, I started to notice the pounding of running barefoot on my ankles. What would you do differently?: I would have like to have maintained form all the way through the swim but over all it was a step in the right direction. Transition 1
Comments: Was a pretty good transion other then suit getting stuck on my heels. What would you do differently?: Not to much. Bike
Comments: Right before the turn around, ran over something and thought the back tire was going flat. This was on my mind as I descented right before the 1st turn around. I had trouble really pushing it as my confidence is a little shaky since the crash, especially with 2 flat tires on the last long ride and thinking the tire was going flat for a good portion of the race. What would you do differently?: Not my best effort in terms of pushing it. After the ride with 2 flats so soon after crashing. I just need to get in more rides to feel better about the ride. Transition 2
Comments: Went past the turn for my rack and when I tried to stop, I slid in the biking shoes and almost went down. Decided stopping was not the best route so cut through the VIP racks. What would you do differently?: Got in and out of T2 in pretty good shape. Run
Comments: Came out of T2 and felt good, probably do to lack of pushing it on the bike. Hit the mile 1 marker at 8:20 which was a bit off the pace I was wanting but knew I really couldn't push too much harder. The 2nd mile was mismarked as I hit that about 6 minutes later. Forgot to hit the stop at the finish but felt I really pushed it the last mile. (Note: After seeing my finishing time, mile 1 could have been the mismarked mile marker.) What would you do differently?: Having friends at the race cheering you on is really motivating. I knew they would be near the finish which really kept me going hard on the last mile. That was a pretty hard effort, not sure what I could have done much better. Post race
Warm down: Hung out at the finish area with friends. Looking forward to the day when they are joining us in the race! In talking to Mike after the race, and I kind of agree, need to do longer races next season. I know with the longer the distance, the worst I'll do but sprints just tend to be go as hard as you can for as long as you can with no real strategy. I am really looking forward to mixing in a few more olympic distance races and hopefully a 1/2 IM race next season. I need to stay focused and lose weight! What limited your ability to perform faster: The biggest limiting factor was probably the loss of confidence on the bike. I think my time will turn out to be ok but I know I could have and probably should have gone harder but it's tough when you have the fear of crashing running around in the back of your head. Event comments: Koz puts on great races at an affordible price! Would like to see the transition segments broken out. I think I ran over 4 mats from when I got out of the water until I got into T1. Arrived at the race pretty early. Was able to set up in a nice spot and kind of enjoy the atmosphere.
Chatted with friends and walked down to the swim start.
