Swim
Comments: The lack of workouts really showed up about 1/3rd of the way into the swim. Felt the arms tiring but really tried to relax and maintain breathing which I think from that standpoint, was one of my better races. What would you do differently?: My Navigation really sucked! Transition 1
Comments: Watch split was 2:52 for T1. I didn't race through the transition but it went smooth. Bike
Comments: Going up over bridge and through the parking lot to Fiesta Island I was feeling the burn in the quads. I was figuring this was due to either A) the route was slightly uphill or B) Lack of working out over the last 6 weeks. I was pretty consistently at 18/19 MPH on the way out and 20/21 around the island and back to 18/19 on the way back so I am going to say it was slightly uphill since the burn disappeared and my pace kept up after I hit Fiesta Island. Transition 2
Comments: 2:22 watch split. OK, went to spot and didn't see transition stuff, someone had placed an orange bucket on top of my bag. Wish I could blame it all on that but I was probably a little disoriented and exited the row and went back and forth looking. Probably wasted 30 seconds and actually thought of just ranking bike and taking off but then remember the whole thing of biking/running shoes and not sure I would have made 3.1 running in biking shoes. Did I mention the disorientation? What would you do differently?: Need to bring some kind of marker, ballon, ribbon, rag to tie to rack to be able to find slot when returning into T2. Run
Comments: Wanted to go out and run 8 min. pace. Made the 1st mile in 7:58 but then fell off with 9:18 and 9:19 2nd and 3rd splits. Pretty sure that was the effects of lagging the last 6 weeks. Post race
Warm down: Hung out at the finish line and waited for others to finish. What limited your ability to perform faster: Being a total flake over the last 6 weeks, motivation was just not there. Not sure how to address this for next year since I had already gotten a real late start on the season do to injury. Hopefully it's just do to all the external factors going on in life right now like selling the house, etc. Event comments: I really enjoyed the course and the race was well run as I've come to expect from Koz events. I look forward to running this again in 08. Last updated: 2007-07-29 12:00 AM

Drove down to San Diego leaving at 4:30AM. Got there and didn't have cell phone so had to track down Matt and the gang to get race packet since they had picket up everything the day before. Didn't have a lot of time to setup transition but actually had plenty of time.
Long walk to the start. Reading some race reports where people said the water was warm is just confirmation that I am a baby. My 1st step in was warm but after that, I thought it was frikkin cold as my hands were going numb on the easy swim to the start.
