Swim
Comments: I didn't feel nervous until I got in the pool, and then my muscles went to mush. I tried to concentrate on form and not churning my arms too fast. Some guy passed me on the first lap like a motorboat. I kept pace OK after that, but expended more energy than I expected. What would you do differently?: I would not have worried about slowing people up. The race rules say to let people pass if they tap you on the foot, so I should have relaxed and just swam, instead of thinking about keeping pace. Transition 1
Comments: I struggled with my socks a little but overall, it wasn't a bad transition. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Maybe if I had felt better in the swim, I could have ran harder to and from the transition area. Bike
Comments: I had a hard time finding a good track to train on where I didn't have to stop for traffic every few miles. I think I may have overdid the bike, although it felt about right to me at the time. My goal was 20 mph and I came close. What would you do differently?: Based on what happened on the run, I would have paced myself more. Transition 2
Comments: I thought I did OK here as far as speed goes. What would you do differently?: I would have taken the helmet off sooner to get cooler faster. Also, I might have drank more water and less electrolyte fluid. I guess. Something hurt the run. Run
Comments: This stunk. I couldn't breathe worth a darn a few hundred yards in and had to walk at the 1 mile mark, ~1.5 mile and 2 mile before I caught my breath and could run the rest at a decent pace. I thought my run would be my best event by far and it was the worst. I have mild asthma and I think it hit me here, at least it was the worst I have felt. What would you do differently?: I would have done more bike-runs in training. I did some but not enough. I would have done more long runs. I would have slept better in the week prior. I would have drank more water on the bike. I would have carried my inhaler with my on my run (never needed it before). I am not sure if any of that would have made a difference. Post race
Warm down: I tried not to pass out and labored to catch my breath. I walked around and eventually stretched. What limited your ability to perform faster: My breathing. Event comments: Small swim, but everything else was great. It was one of the best organized events I have attended, certainly the best race. Last updated: 2007-07-31 12:00 AM
