Swim
Comments: T1 was included in swim time. This was the best pool swim I've ever done. Was very relaxed, caught a lot of people, drafted a couple times, and was clean off of every wall. What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 1
Comments: included in swim time I passed 3 people from the pool to transition and 2 more coming out of T1 with the bike. What would you do differently?: T1 went very smooth. Bike
Comments: I don't remember this course being this hilly but it worked to my advantage. The tri bikes passed my roadie on the downhills and flats but I caught all of them on the hills. I even saw people walking on one hill as I sprinted passed them. Mike K.(aka Special K) was my motivation. He started 12 people behind me on the swim and I wasn't going to let him catch me on the bike. He said he would catch up to me on the downhills and I would pull away from him on the climbs. The last couple miles were on a one lane, rough road. There was a truck pulling a horse trailer going to the state park and I caught a draft off of him and passed about 5 bikers doing 30mph. I don't know if it was legal but it sure didn't hurt. What would you do differently?: I went as fast as I could for as long as I could so I don't think anything else would have helped. Transition 2
Comments: As I was changing my right shoe my right calf cramped. I tried to stretch it then my left calf cramped. I said screw it and got both running shoes on and took off. What would you do differently?: I've got to figure out the cramping problem Run
Comments: The first half mile was ugly. I finally got a rythmm and started catching people. At the turn around I saw Courtney (a 17 year old girl I train with) and wanted to catch her badly. Her mom was screaming encouragement to both of us. I ended up with the same run time as her. I really thought I had run this course faster than last year but mmy time was slower. It was extremely humid this year. What would you do differently?: Practice more bricks. Post race
Warm down: water and a pool swim to cool off What limited your ability to perform faster: Not getting enough sleep, calf cramps, humidity Event comments: I treated this race as an A race and all went as planned except the run. I really wanted a 21 min. 3 mile run so I could hit my goal time of 1:18:00 and beat Mike. Mike got me by :34 seconds and kept me from getting 3rd in AG... but he's my motivation at this race...and if I have to get beat by anyone, I'd want it to be to him. I was able to shave another minute off my time from last year so it is an improvement. Last updated: 2007-08-02 12:00 AM

After getting 3 hours of sleep, woke up at 3:30am. Ate 2 bagals and 1 bottle of water. Drove the 95 miles to race site eating honey and sipping water. Registered and set up transition.
Rode the bike 1 mile to make sure all functional, ran .5 mile to check for tightness, swam 100 yards. Took a gel at 7am.
