Swim
Comments: really comfortable swim. started on the left side front row. Swam directly for the turn triangle bouy instead of going bouy to bouy, inside bouys seemed off course. Caught a draft a couple times on first leg but people not swimming straight line so kept my own course. next leg, drafted for most of it. then the last leg drafted on and off. best part was swimming right next to the Hoyts. they are so amazing!!!! What would you do differently?: more swim training. I have kind of slacked on the swimming since IMCdA. But I will say it was a good swim because I never once felt uncomfortable or upset like at IMCdA. Transition 1
Comments: existed water at the same time as quites a few people, so slower going up ramp. opted not to use wetsuit strippers as there was a line. Took some extra time to put on arm warmers and wipe off sand from feet. What would you do differently?: maybe put armwarmers on while riding. find the foot baths Bike
Comments: took it nice and easy over the first sections of climbs. then enjoyed the flats. after the turn around the headwind started so flats and downhills not as fast. then hit the hills back. generally felt good most of the ride, kept to gu every 30mins, gu2o concentrate and h2o in water bottle, and 2 endurolytes an hour. passed the hoyts as they were just finishing the hill on their way out and my way in. once again the sight is one of the most amazing things in the world. What would you do differently?: more training. I need to put as much time in the saddle as possible over this next year in order to improve my bike times. I am really happy with this ride because I kept as close to my watts as I could and it felt good. Transition 2
Comments: well this was a slow transition because I had to pee, so yes I did it.... I sat down and peed while I put my shoes on. but peeing took longer then it did to put on shoes, visor and drink some liquids. so I sat until I was done. LOL there was a male volunteer at the end of the row 5 bikes from me asking me if I needed help, I said no, I didn't have the balls to explain why I was hesitating. What would you do differently?: learn to pee on the bike or suck it up the wasted time and use the portopotty. Run
Comments: left transition and grabbed h2o at table to wash off. then got into an easy comfortable pace. first mile was slow but I wanted to start off that way. First 6miles were good but then the legs just weren't feeling it. The rollers started to get to me so I held on and focused on mile to mile. Did a gu every 3 miles (first time i did not use my fask in a while, probably a mistake). drank h2o and gatorade first loop then started the coke the second loop. mile 1: 9.04 mile 2: 8.21 mile 3: 8.22 mile 4: 8.17 mile 5: 8.41 (hill where hamistring started tightening) mile 6: 8.40 mile 7: 10.26 (this was turning around not sure why so long) mile 8: 9.19 mile 9: 9.17 mile 10: 9.29 mile 11: 10.03 (up that damn hill again... that hurt) mile 12: 9.41 mile 13.1: 8.40 What would you do differently?: more training. use the gu fask. I have been using a gu flask at all longer race and I can take a hit from it every mile or every couple minutes = more even energy level. Post race
Warm down: sat right down in an ice bath for about 10mins. then went to food tent and ran into Jorge. Ate some pizza, banana and chatted with Jorge and Phil. Then watched the Hoyts transition from Bike to Run... once again the most amazing thing. Watched Nate finish up as the Hoyts left transition. walked around and ate some more and then stayed to watch the Hoyt's finish. What limited your ability to perform faster: This was a B/C race. Having done IMCdA on june 24ths and taking some good recovery time limited my training. Also work over the last month has been extremely busy so I have not been getting as much sleep as I sould be. But with that said, I was pleased with this race. Event comments: This is a great race and much more interesting then the Eagleman course. It is a tough course but very enjoyable and a lot of fun. The pre race and post race events look to be family friendly and also a lot of fun for a long weekend. able to see lots of friends on the course: May, Max, Rob, Jorge, Nate and some other who I don't know their names. also great to race a race with a great pro/elite lineup.
