Swim
Comments: Freaked out and seriously considered throwing in the towel in the first 200 yards. Broke down and started doing breast stroke for the first half of course, switching to freestyle after I'd caught my breath and felt confident enough to try. Continued on in this fashion for the remainder of the race. What would you do differently?: Be in the pool much, much, MUCH more!! Transition 1
Comments: Ran in shoes. Ground was a little muddy from the rain the day before and so it wasn't too difficult to move. What would you do differently?: Practice more. Not wear a stretch upper shirt. It got stuck on my wet skin and probably cost me 45 seconds to get straightened out. Was REALLY tired from the swim... Bike
Comments: I enjoyed the bike leg, it was challenging, but not an absolute killer. The spectators were great! What would you do differently?: More time on the bike! Work on hills. More group rides. Transition 2
Comments: Weather was starting to warm up by the time I finished the bike. Should have swam faster!! Transition from bike to run only consisted of changing shoes and clipping on my race number belt. Took a mouthful of accelerade and started running. What would you do differently?: Take a little more time in the transition area and make sure I'd drank more and properly fueled up. Another minute at this point would have easily been made up on the run had I done this. Run
Comments: Cramps! Massive leg cramps about 3k into the run. Everything I could drink I did, but didn't really help all that much. Had been looking to this leg to be able to make up a little of my slower times. What would you do differently?: Electrolyte replacements? I don't know... I was more than prepared for the run. I guess more practice on brick workouts. Post race
Warm down: Sat in medical tent and drank an electrolyte solution with ice packs on my quads What limited your ability to perform faster: Poor swimming technique, cramps during run. Event comments: Loved the race!!! I've already signed up for the entire series in 2008! Am looking forward to kicking this courses butt this year! Last updated: 2007-08-04 12:00 AM
