Pre-race routine:

Got there really early and found a decent spot. Used the port-a-john and felt a little better.
Event warmup:

I was waiting as long as I could to get into the water because I didn't want to get too hot in my wetsuit. I ended up almost being late for my wave because I put my wetsuit on so late. I got in the water about 90 seconds before my wave started.
Swim
  • 17m 32s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 59s / 100 yards
Comments:

I put average and good mainly because I suck at swimming, but since this is only my 2nd real tri and I did way better than last time in the water I made a few of my rates good.
One thing I distinctly remember is that I was able to draft much better this time. It was a lot easier following the bubbles rather than looking up and breaking my pace/rhythm.
I also didn't feel very claustrophobic this time. Last time I was kind of shocked at only being able to see only a few feet in front of my face.
Another thing that really comes to mind is that I think I had a little more difficult time breathing because it felt like the cap i was wearing kept channeling water into my mouth. In the pool I don't have this problem. I'm not sure if it was the choppy water or the cap... Comments would be welcome on this finding.
What would you do differently?:

I'll be swimming more in the pool to improve.

I know I need to work on my swim..but I rated it as good because I did do better than last time.
Transition 1
  • 02m 55s
Comments:

I did a better transition that last time, but still need to work on getting the wetsuit off. The wetsuit really improves my swim times and I think that the advantage of using the suit outweighs the time it takes to get it off. I also think I'm going to try and start practicing having my shoes clipped in. I think that would save me a few seconds.
What would you do differently?:

Not much... Like I said, I need to practice putting on the shoes while riding.
Bike
  • 43m 46s
  • 16 miles
  • 21.93 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike course is pretty easy. The only problem is that there are so many people that I again got slowed up by cars. I'm sure I would have had at least a 23mph avg if it hadn't been for the cars slowing me.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

I forgot to hit my split time here. I remembered to hit it as I put my shoes on.
Run
  • 20m 59s
  • 3 miles
  • 06m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

I could have pushed a little harder but it was a tri for fun and I knew I wasn't going to catch my carrot.
Post race
Warm down:

Hopped in the lake!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I suck at swimming and transitioning.

Event comments:

I rated this race as just right for me mainly because I'm too new to be saying that I kicked ass. I did do ok.. but there is still room for improvement.
