Swim
Comments: First time doing this distance and started at back of wave.. Swim course was fine and lots of help out there with life guards if needed.. What would you do differently?: I was pleased with swim time. This is my weakest event and will always work to improve swim times.. Transition 1
Comments: T1 set up pretty good.. Not to far to go from shore to bike.. What would you do differently?: Continue to work on T1 time. Getting out of suit not a problem. Just seem to take too long.. Bike
Comments: This bike course kicked my butt. Never did this race before and I don't do hills well at all. Legs not there and old-school 14 speed Centurion LeMans not helping. First time I have cramped on ride portion of any distance race, including 70.3. I think I tried to do this race with minimal training, coming off 70.3 race 2 months before. What would you do differently?: I'll never take a race for granted and not train before doing one, again. Of course I need to work on leg strength and hills. Transition 2
Comments: quick out of T2 for me.. Run
Comments: Struggles with ride fell into run.. T2 was fast for me but just couldn't get into run. Had trouble relaxing and got to think it was because of cramping on last bike lap. Right leg cramping started again 1/2 mile into run but didn't last too long.. Walked about 2 miles of this 6 mile run because of dead legs.. Water was an issue with nothing left at water stops 4 and 5.. What would you do differently?: Take more fluids on bike even after thinking 3 bottles was enough.. Take a water bottle with me next time I do this race. Post race
Warm down: walk and drink..walk and drink.. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of mental prep and training killed me for this race. Thought I could use fitness level left over from Vineman 70.3 to get me thru it. Event comments: Not happy with no water at last 2 stops. I understand that I and several others were the last ones on the course and that stops may not be manned that late into a race, but water should be left behind if it is advertised the race will have water stops.. Other than that, race was good and course was challenging for me. I will do it again next year but will be better prepared for it mentally and physically.. I learned something about myself from this race as I do from all that I participate in. I struggled but I finiahed it and didn't give up. Last updated: 2007-08-07 12:00 AM
