Swim
Comments: Started out well. I had worked on my 3 stroke breathing this last week with good results. Got to the first buoy using front crawl. After the turn I had problems getting my breathing going right again. Sidestroked, breast stroked and front crawled to the 2nd buoy. After the turn tried backstroke to get the heart rate / breathing under control. Started front crawl again and made it to the beach. What would you do differently?: Keep working on the 3 stroke breathing until it's completely automatic. Transition 1
Comments: Longish run from beach up to the transition area. At the actual transition area it didn't feel like I spent a lot of time. But I did sit down to put my shoes on. What would you do differently?: I was happy with it. Bike
Comments: This is a fun ride. Lots of "Texas Rollers". Meaning scream down a hill at 37 mph and hopefully have enough momentum to get up the next hill. Went down to a minimum of 11 mph on one hill, but I was able to stay seated and spinning. I was able to pass multiple people going up the hills by spinning up them. Last weekend, that same hill kicked my butt and took all the energy from my legs. This weekend, I was able to accelerate afterwards to get up to speed. What would you do differently?: More time in the saddle Transition 2
Comments: Ride up to the dismount line; thank all of the volunters on the way. Come to a complete stop and dismount. I still haven't worked out the flying mount or dismount. What would you do differently?: Work on the flying mount and dismount. Run
Comments: Started out with a high cadence and not pushing too hard, trying to keep my HR in the low 180's. After the final turn around, there was an uphill run and then a down hill run. I knew from last weekend the final down hill part was a little less than a mile from the finish. At this point, I started pushing. HR was 190+. Thanked all of the volunteers along the way. Post race
Warm down: Walked around, grabbed some drinks and found the rest of the BT contingent. Cheered the rest of the people coming in. What limited your ability to perform faster: Swimming, biking, and running. All three need work, but I had fun and I count this as a good race. Event comments: The swim started a little late but everything ran very smooth. Lot's of volunters on the course to direct people. I will do this race again. Last updated: 2007-08-10 12:00 AM

Got everything together and in my truck the night before. Checked it 3 times and in bed by 9. Peanut butter & honey toast, a chewy granola bar, and coffee. Drove for a hour to get there. Arrived at 5:45, setup transition area. Got a spot at the very end of the row so I had extra room. Brought everything in a 5 gallon bucket which I also use as a seat for putting on shoes.
Potty 3 times. Walk into water for temperature check. It felt good. Talked to a few people I'd met the week before and to Aaron (JeepFleeb). After the Half-Iron and Olympic distance waves went off, swam about 50 yds. Waited for my wave.
