Swim
Comments: Decent enough swim. Started first leg a bit wide, but settled in. Once I started getting into my groove and picking up the pace, the swim was over. What would you do differently?: Swim faster and sight better. Transition 1
Comments: Straight uphill from water to T1, got shoes and helmet on pretty quickly. Then had to run 50 yards up the hill with the bike before mounting. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: Decent enough ride. The course was nice but hilly. As it was not a USAT race, you could draft. I never really did, but spent the ride chatting up folks (I don't really go fast, so I enjoy talking with people during the race, thanking volunteers, talking with locals as we go by, etc.) Transition 2
Comments: Was able to get through T2 reasonably quickly. Run
Comments: Uggh run. Started cramping in calves (as always) about 1/2 mile into race. Stretched & walked for a bit. Took water from volunteers and used it to cool off - good idea. Caught up with a buddy who was having a hard time because of dehyrdation and finished the run with him. He was struggling a bit, and since this wasn't my A race, I figured I'd just hang out with him and walk/shuffle it in. I could've pushed the pace some, but didn't see the need. I even chatted with the locals as I ran by (Think Cletus, the slack-jawed yokel from the Simpsons: "Whachay'all doin'?" "We're racing a triathlon." "Y'all are crazy. I ain't doin' that." "Yeah, we're crazy alright .") What would you do differently?: Go faster. Post race
Warm down: Drink all the water they could hand out. That's also all they handed out. Event comments: This was a small-town, low-key event. Not big on production, but the folks were friendly and for a good cause. Last updated: 2007-08-10 12:00 AM
