Pre-race routine:

Hotel the night before, with a turkey wrap and small ice cream cone, and real sugary sprite to drink.

The next morning had a bagel and a half, and coffee, in the hotel. Very quick drive to the run.
Event warmup:

Not much. Stand around a little, a small trot. Actaullly felt an annoying tweak in my left calf while trotting.

Comments:

Ran the first half with Lisa, and made it to turn around in about 1:04, so I thought I'd turn it on and run back fast on my own. Lisa has improved so dramatically that my run out was almost a pace I'd of wanted on my own - maybe some slower, but not dragging, and okay for a B/C race anyway. . .

Picked it up on the way back but for the last 2-3 miles I didn't have it to kick into gear, unlike the Licoln half, and the last mile I could not go at all - lost all speed and just crawled into the finish. Sad. Just shows what adequate training will do, or should I say inadequate will do.
What would you do differently?:

Train more/longer - follow a training plan, train more than a month, and do more long runs.

Don't blow off runs the last week, then put in a 10k on Wednesday that was harder than it should have been in taper. Really taper with shorter easier runs to keep myself limber but not sore, etc.

Don't wear worn out shoes.

If I'd of cared, I would have gone faster the first half.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and ate some orange slices, etc.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Inadequate training and running the first half slow and just for fun going with Lisa. It was fun to run it with her, and her race improved DRAMATICALLY by being on a faster pace with me that first half.

My right hip pain and left calf tweak REALLY MESSED UP MY RUN. These are a result of too much increase in mileage too fast (the hip) and compensating (the calf). Gotta rest up and recover as a result. . .

Event comments:

Great race in smaller venue - maybe 200 doing the half, but well organized, and lots of fun. Everything you'd want in the larger scene, but uncrowded. Well manned, everything good, and nothing bad. Really.
