Comments: Lots of weeds. What would you do differently?: adjust my direction for the current better Transition 1
Bike
Comments: Course was half ok and half terrible. On the way out, directions were confusing and there was no one there to direct you. If they were there, they weren't paying attention. One small section had spray painted warnings saying rough road. I had to slow down because I was afraid of cracking a rim. Also during the bike both of the rubber bands holding my aero bottle broke. Luckily the aero bars are close enough together to hold the bottle without the rubber bands. But it kept bouncing around. When the rubber bands broke it also dropped my GU energy gel that I usually take right before I finish the bike. What would you do differently?: use new rubber bands for raceday and have an extra energy gel in transition in case I lose it again. Transition 2
Run
Comments: I didn't know the run was going to be mostly off road. I wouldn't have used flats. What would you do differently?: Find out more about the run course. I also still need to pick it up a little on the run. I hate the run. Post race
Warm down: Bottle of water, sit in the shade. What limited your ability to perform faster: rough section of road and losing my energy gel during the bike. Event comments: Course was incredibly confusing around the trasition area. The way the course was laid out had people that were coming out of run out crossing the path of the people finishing. After coming out of the water there was approximately a quarter mile run through the park and parking lot to the transition area. There weren't any mats or carpet laid down for this run, so the stones and pebles in the parking lot felt great on your feet. I would have rather done multiple laps around a smaller bike course than ride over the rough road the the course went on for a short section. I had to slow down in fear or cracking a rim. The generator ran out of gas twice. Once before the race and once during. When the generator shut down, the blower for the finish line turned off and the finish line arch started to deflate while people were coming in to finish their race. They talk about having 42 years of experience putting events on, but this race didn't prove it. Food at the end was very limited and non-athletes had to pay for their meal. Awards were also very dissorganized. I enjoyed being able to do a triathlon while I was visiting home, but I think I'll stick to the Florida events from now on. Last updated: 2007-08-12 12:00 AM
