Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:20, got dresses and loaded the car. Ate 2 waffles with peanut butter on the way out the door. Got to the race early, just the way I like it, no wait for bathroom, body marking, chip pickup, etc. Set up my area and wandered around looking for people. Chatted for a while until it was time to head down to the start.
Event warmup:

Not much, got halfway in the water then stood around talking.
Swim
  • 06m 20s
  • 400 yards
  • 01m 35s / 100 yards
Comments:

Pretty good swim overall. I am actually surprised about my time- I felt like most of the swim was crowded and that I wasn't going too fast. Started off kinda 'messy' because we were able to run for 10-15 feet before actually starting the swim. I dove in a bit early while others were still running. I think it's kinda hard to run in the water, so I figure that diving in might work better. Swim stayed pretty crowded until the last bouy, but I just kept very close to the bouy and tried to pick off people one by one. I had a nice pace with a girl I used to swim with and I just tried to hang with her. Finished off with the quick jog up to T-area.
What would you do differently?:

Not too much. I realized that I should be starting at the very front of my wave and that's worked well. I need to just remember to push as hard as possible on the swim to take advantage of being a strong swimmer.
Transition 1
  • 01m 17s
Comments:

Good T1 time, I think this is my second fastest T1 so far. I was smack dab in the middle of the transition area, on the outside edge too. Good thing there was a huge tree and a balloon right by me! Need to always be focusing on transitions since you can loose a lot with a slower time.
What would you do differently?:

Not too much. Might try training some without socks to cut down my time, might not.
Bike
  • 40m 18s
  • 13 miles
  • 19.35 mile/hr
Comments:

This was the best bike in a race so far. It felt great! I was only passed by 3-4 women with only one in my AG. It was awesome! I don't remember this course being so fast, but I felt like I was flying...getting 21+ mph at some points. I tried to stay in aero most of the time except for some of the uphills. One frustration was that many women were riding 2-3 wide and it was hard to pass, luckily everyone moved over pretty quickly with and 'on your left'.
What would you do differently?:

Not too much, I'd love to repeat this performance soon!
Transition 2
  • 00m 52s
Comments:

First one back on my rack! Then a nice fast T2. I've tried to spend the last bit of the bike going through my transition in my head. I think it helped!
What would you do differently?:

Not too much...
Run
  • 28m 44s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 14s  min/mile
Comments:

This is my weakest part of tri's for sure- and this course wasn't easy for me. It seemed like there was always a little hill in front of me. My goal was to keep running and not get discouraged mentally. I did pass some people in older AG's, but got passed by several girls in my AG. Not good! It's easy for me to say that I could have run faster, but I do think I was giving it pretty close to my best. Plus, my time was a PR or close to one, so I won't complain.
What would you do differently?:

Continue working on my run. It's what I need to improve by 3:00-5:00 to be AG competitive. It's promising b/c I feel I've made improvements in the past 12 months, I think it's just going to be a slow process. I figure is a good challenge to have!
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed water, my shirt and watched people finish. Looked for Kraig forever, but he was still on the run course. Got a quick massage at the PT Solutions tent before leaving.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Overall, not much. I could have gotten more sleep, but I don't think it affected me too bad.

Event comments:

Good race and I'll do it every year if it works on my schedule. You can't beat having a short 20 min drive to a race.
