Pre-race routine:

woke up at 4:45am had a power bar and a banana, water and cytomax. I then got dressed and was heading for the race at 5:15am
Event warmup:

Standing in line for 25min to use the outhouse.
Swim
  • 1h 25m 25s
  • 3862 meters
  • 02m 13s / 100 meters
Comments:

I had good swim. When I looked at my watch when I was coming out of the lake I thought it had stopped, I could not believe I swam that fast I was expecting to come out of the water at about 1hr 35min.
What would you do differently?:

I dont know what there ids to change other than work on my technique so that I am faster the next time.
Transition 1
  • 03m 3s
Comments:

I think I was in shock about my swim because I don't really remember what the transition was like.
What would you do differently?:

I don't really know at this point.
Bike
  • 5h 54m 30s
  • 180.25 kms
  • 30.51 km/hr
Comments:

I was very happy with my bike ride. I felt like i was working quite hard the whole time. It was a lot of fun. The one tough timer came at Yellow Lakes when I started to bonk. I was able to save my butt by taking in 5 gels.
What would you do differently?:

I would make sure that I take in more calories as I started to feel tired at Yellow Lakes.
Transition 2
  • 04m 5s
Comments:

My transition didn't go to well, I could not decide what to wear, I put on run shorts and a t shirt then felt better in my tri clothes. So off went the run clothes and on went the tri clothes. A real bad mistake.
What would you do differently?:

I would make sure i know what the hell I am doing when I come into transition so it goes much smoother.
Run
  • 3h 57m 28s
  • 42.16 kms
  • 05m 38s  min/km
Comments:

I felt really good going into the run. at about mile 12 I started to feel pretty used up. My quads were very sore. The winds on the way back made the run even tougher, oh well.
What would you do differently?:

make sure that I am always getting water and gels into my body.
Post race
Warm down:

Sit down and get some food into my body.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I am not sure at this point.

Event comments:

The best part of this race was that I had personal bests in all three disciplines and that I did not get any cramps during the race. I would like to come back to IMC in 2009 to see if I can have an even faster race. Overall this was one of the most fun race that I have ever done. I was a blast.
