Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4:30 a.m. Had an english muffin and gatorade and coffee. Drove downtown and picked up Spraggs and we drove down to the race start area.
Event warmup:

Tried to stay dry and out of the rain until about 20 min before the race, then ran some quick sprints around the block. Then got corraled in the starting chute with all my new friends.

Comments:

First Half Marathon race ever. It was cold and raining and not much fun when we were waiting to start, but once the race started, it was good. Lots and lots of people running and braving the weather.
What would you do differently?:

Probably should have worn my tights. My right hammy started to cramp in the last mile. My legs were fine up until about the 9 mile mark and then they were getting cold and sore. Next time I won't wear my amphipod running belt. I'll just tuck a gel in my pocket. Also next time I'll wear my ipod. It will help on the last few miles.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked and tried to get out of the rain. Found some shelter and put some warm clothes on.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I've never trained in these kind of conditions, so I wasn't used to the wet cold. My feet were soaked and that made for heavy feet. My legs got cold. I should have worn my tights.

Event comments:

Good race overall. Learned some things for next time. Next year I'll do the full!

Course: Zig Zag and around town. It was pretty cool running through downtown on all the streets and having them all blocked off for us. It was really cool how all the volunteers and police were out and took care of us. I had a hard time with the hill around mile 10. My legs just were having a hard time and I need to practice my hills more.
