Run
Comments: Paul and I decided to run together would prove to be a lifesaver for both of us. I saw darker times on that run than I ever saw on the IM. We started off great but I suspected I was in trouble at mile 3 when I was drenched head to toe w/ sweat. My legs (and Paul's too) started to cramp around mile 10 but we were still o-k until around mile 13, from there it rapidly deteriorated. I guess it was the humidity b/c it wasn't that hot but we just couldn't keep up with our sweating. We were both nauseaus so water wasn't going down well and our legs were cramping. I don't think I had any water after mile 13. By then we were walking very regularly and by mile 20 we were doing more of a walk than a run. I was very very upset but we had to change our focus on surviving and getting through the experience together which was very special in the end for me. After mile 13 we started to say - oh hell we have to come walk these parks all week with our kids, until finally we walked most of the last 4 miles holding hands through Epcot. What would you do differently?: Bring enduralytes?!?!?!? Rest up before the race & actually eat food in the 2 weeks leading up to the race. Post race
Warm down: Ice, Ice, Ice. One day later still struggling to walk. What limited your ability to perform faster: The flu (both mine & the family's), exaustion & dehydration (or more importantly lack of electrolytes) Event comments: The race was very well run & if I had had a better day I would have great things to say about the event, it just wasn't my day. I'm not sure where to begin - with the flu the full 2 1/2 weeks before the race, the outbreak of the stomach flu in our condo on Friday night (not my family, my brother, sister in law and their kids) or the lack of sleep the night before b/c our 2 kids were noisily sleeping on the floor of our room. All in all we were thouroughly exausted when we woke up for the race on Sun. morning at 3:15. I had a bowl of grits and took along a bottle of water & a bottle of water w/ one scoop of perpeteum. We drove over to the expo, looked around and realized we were way too early so we went to wait in the car.
Walking to the start corals? Peeing in the foul smelling brush on the side of the road? Hmm, which to choose.
