Total Time = 1h 38m 32s
Overall Rank = 519/1883
Age Group = M35-39
Age Group Rank = 75/172
Pre-race routine:

Ate a few Cliff Bars (chocolate brownie) and Gatorade endurance.

Event warmup:

A little jogging and some stretching
Swim
  • 19m 31s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 23s / 100 yards
Comments:

Water was WAY colder than I expected. Don't know if it was from the cold shock but I couldn't catch my breathe for a while. Horrible start. But once I found my rhythm, I did great. Passed several people from the heat before me.

I think that swim time includes the 450m run to the transition area.
What would you do differently?:

Wetsuit next time...without a doubt!!
Transition 1
  • 04m 46s
Comments:

My rack wasn't close to bike in/out so I had a lot of running with the bike to do. Had trouble getting on my jersey.
What would you do differently?:

Just be quicker overall. Once I get a wetsuit, that will allow me to have my HR strap and jersey on already.
Bike
  • 42m 44s
  • 13.67 miles
  • 19.19 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike felt pretty strong. I passed a ton of people...that felt good. Only got passed by a few people. Had a little bobble getting into pedals but recovered quickly.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe push a little harder...I was worried about not having energy left for the run. Take a second to look at the beautiful surroundings.
Transition 2
  • 03m
Comments:

Not bad. But my time says I could have gone quicker. The long run from bike in hurt.
Run
  • 28m 25s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

My rank says I need to work on running the most. Stomach felt tight the first mile. Felt like I was running really slow. But with a time of 28:25, it was one of my faster 5Ks.
What would you do differently?:

train more with longer distances. push harder. This is definitely my weak point.
Post race
Warm down:

didn't do much, a little stretching maybe. My family was there to cheer me on (helped a bunch)...so I just talked with them.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

that frickin cold water!! :)

Event comments:

Very, very organized event. Can't wait to do it again next year! I'll have to shoot for under 1:30

For my first triathlon...I was thrilled at my results. I told my self, under 2:00 would fine...1:45 would be great. Finishing in 1:38:32 was amazing!!

It was great to have family cheering me on. My wife follow me on the seawall during the swim. My parents, sister, and brother-in-law (along with my wife) were there during the run with hand made signs in hand.

I am now a triathlete!!
