Pre-race routine:

Ate a small bowl of oatmeal with a banana and a protein smoothie. This could have played into my demise...
Event warmup:

Light bike to the event from car, 300 yard swim, stretching
Swim
  • 29m 29s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 48s / 100 yards
Comments:

Started out feeling great. About half way thru, the velcro on my timing chip came lose. The chip fell off so I had to do some diving to catch it. A real momentum breaker and only the introduction to the day. I also think that I was not navigating as well as I should since the bouys and the swim caps were the same colors. I wasted some time doing that as well.
What would you do differently?:

Tie the timing chip on.

Comments:

I borrowed my friends ZIPPs with the disc wheel on back. It was not what I needed for the hills. Great for the downhill but a pain for the ups. Not only that, due to some compatibility issues, I wasn't able to shift all the way into my hill climbing gears. this resulted in a loss of cadence. Should have used this wheel set at West Point instead.

The biggest comedy of errors started at about mile 15. It appears that my body did not like what I had to eat last night and decided to cause problems... This would end up killing my run.

Run
  • 1h 01m 36s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 09m 55s  min/mile
Comments:

Disaster struck. I was feeling very ill and it was a very uncomfortable run. I was in desperate need of facilities and they were not abundant. This obviously slowed me down dramatically to the tune of about 10-12 minutes.
What would you do differently?:

Better medicate before every race so I can focus on my race and not how to deal with other issues...
Post race
Warm down:

Pretty ill by this point, just got some fluids so I wouldn't be completely dehydrated and rested a bit before packing up. Ate a little fruit.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Illness issues.

Event comments:

I would like to request portable restroom facilities somewhere on the run course. It was such a pain to try to find somewhere to take care of emergency business and I am sure that I am not the only one to have to deal with this.
