Age Group = F 25-29
Age Group Rank = 38/95
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4:30, ate 2 bagels, and got down to the race by 5:15. Set up my transition, bike was already there from night before, and jogged around a little bit.
Event warmup:

Ran for 10min.
Swim
  • 13m 16s
  • 500 meters
  • 02m 39s / 100 meters
Comments:

I was nervous when we were standing on the boat ramp watching the elites go...but as soon as I got in the water I was excited. It was warm and I felt fast. I swam near to bouys by myself, and I think this led me to zig zag quite a bit. I got better at sighting during the last half. My best pace in the pool has been 2:48/100m, so I am really happy with this time.
What would you do differently?:

swim behind someone, sight better.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

T1 time is included in bike time. I think i moved pretty fast tho. Getting the wetsuit off was pretty easy.
What would you do differently?:

Learn how to mount the bike with my shoes attached, running in bike shoes is slow!
Bike
  • 40m 17s
  • 10.5 miles
  • 15.64 mile/hr
Comments:

I know I wasn't moving that slow. Since the transition times were included in the bike split, its hard to know what my pace was. Also, I don't think the bike was 15K, my computer clocked it around 10.5 miles. I was only passed by one girl in my age group, I loved passing people...so much fun.
What would you do differently?:

Go harder, the bike was over too soon, and I think I could have improved my time by a couple minutes. I wish I had known where the last mile was.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

I don't know any of the cool dismounting moves yet. Too clumsy to try on my own. I think I did pretty well tho. Time was included in bike split.
What would you do differently?:

Learn to do a "flying dismount"...
Run
  • 22m 30s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 14s  min/mile
Comments:

Loved it! I started out with the goal of catching as many of my fellow age groupers as I could. I passed a girl right away that had passed me on the bike...that felt good. I did the first mile in 6:46. TOO FAST. Must have been the excitement, b/c I know my legs were not feeling that great off the bike. Slowed down over the next couple miles, but kept passing people. Noone in my age group passed me. yea!

I did a 5K around this time last year, and finished it in 24:37...feels good to be in better shape than I have been in years.
What would you do differently?:

Go harder! I second-guessed myself on the last 1.1 miles. I needed to start my kick earlier.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, met up with my husband. Ate some food, drove back to santa barbara.

Event comments:

Great race, just wish they had more mile markers.
