Comments: Legs hurt the entire race, and hit severe pain at 13 miles. Was on pace for 4 hours at mid way point, but could not keep up pace with the pain. (hips, knees, shins, ankles, arches) What would you do differently?: Not overtrain!!! I added distance way too fast. Next time I'll start training much sooner and if I do start late it will be better to be at a lower distance (cardio level) but have fresh non-injured legs. The last 3 weeks leading up to the race, my legs were hurting very bad. Post race
Warm down: Got a drink and sat down! What limited your ability to perform faster: Severe leg pain due to over-training Event comments: Overall, I have to be happy that I completed my first marathon. However, my average pace has been about 8:30 regardless of distance. I did 1:53 in the HM last year and really should have been able to run sub 4 hours with proper training. Went to sleep at 10pm, woke up at 5am. Took ibuprofen, protein shake, and granola bar.
