Pre-race routine:

Drove an hour from home to be there by 6:15. Got bodymarked, set up, and went down to beach to do a couple of laps. Had peanut butter and jelly sandwich, lots of water and sports drinks.

Swim
  • 15m 15s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 52s / 100 yards
Comments:

It was difficult because the sun was directly in front of us, so I couldn't sight the buouy and spent a lot of time swimming breast to get an accurate reading.
What would you do differently?:

I always panic in the first 200 yards or so. Don't know why since I'm a solid swimmer. Makes my time significantly slower. Guess maybe I should cut myself a break given that this was only my second triathlon (I did my first tri last year).
Transition 1
  • 01m 42s
Comments:

I got third of all women in the T1 split. Woohooo!
Bike
  • 1h 24m 34s
  • 26.09 miles
  • 18.51 mile/hr
Comments:

It definitely took me a while to get into it after the swim. I was probably only averaging 13 mph at that point. Didn't really get into the groove until 5 miles in.

I tend to throw up a little on my bike repeatedly. Not sure how to prevent that. I was playing cat and mouse with another female bike rider. I was stronger on the uphills, but she was a bit stronger on the flat.

The bike is a good place for me to improve on my time, since it's my second strongest discipline.
Transition 2
  • 00m 59s
Comments:

I put my bike in the wrong way, so had to fiddle with that.
What would you do differently?:

I need to learn how to dismount better. That takes up extra time.
Run
  • 26m 41s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 35s  min/mile
Comments:

This is my weakest discipline, no doubt. But my goal for this tri was to run the entire leg of the run, and I did! I did have to stop to stretch my achilles, which started to really hurt at the 1.5 mile marker. I was at a sub-8 minute pace for the first mile and a half. After that I slowed to 8:22 and then to 9:22.
What would you do differently?:

I just need to keep working at running. Hopefully, my achilles tendon won't act up next time. Pretty sore today and hard to walk. I'm pleased since my time last year was 28:38.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

I psyched myself out on the swim.

Event comments:

Great event for its first year and for my second triathlon!
