Pre-race routine:

Deleted previous race report had some errors. Set bike up evening before. Learned about covering gears, derailers & ect.. if going to rain night before race. Glad i decided to bring some plastic bags and tape. Also received some assistance from experienced people. Thanks to them. Listened to thunderstorms all night. Did not get a night sleep. Ate a bannana, bagel and juice. Drove to event still raining hard with lighting. Waited with others until they decided to run the event at 6:30 the schedualed start time.
Event warmup:

Race started 40m late because of weather. They gave us 10-15m to set-up transition area. Was able to swim a couple of minutes.
Swim
  • 25m 28s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 33s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swimming is my strongest event. Felt good about this I know I could have done better but this was my first Oly tri so I was conservative with pace. I getting more comfortable doing OWS still need to work on navigation. I felt really good with bilateral breathing every 3 strokes and stretching out the stoke length.
What would you do differently?:

I'll swim harder in my next Oly tri now that I have one completed
Transition 1
  • 05m 3s
Comments:

Took my time because of wet conditions. Did not pre-clip in shoes because I'm not that good yet at running with bike to mounting line the putting on shoes while pedeling. Conservative with it being first Oly so put on shoes and trotted to mounting. Felt more comfortable doing it this way today along with being safer for myself and others.
What would you do differently?:

Continue to practice running with bike, mounting and getting shoes on and up to speed
Bike
  • 1h 29m 3s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 16.74 mile/hr
Comments:

Found a gear I liked and stuck with it. Felt good about cadence and pace for being first Oly and level of experience taking weather and road conditions (wet) into consideration
What would you do differently?:

I now know I can go harder during next Oly tri.
Transition 2
  • 03m 50s
Comments:

Once again moved with a purpose but not that fast and I had to get my shoes out of plastic bags. Walked to run out to see if that would help with my breathing at start of run. It did. Felt relaxed at start of run and breathing was easy.
Run
  • 1h 09m 19s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 11m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

Slow but I felt good about it. Breathing was more relaxed this time and I decided to walk through water stops this time so that slowed me but it worked. I found a good pace and stuck with it.
Post race
Warm down:

walked around, rode bike back to car and lite stretching

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Experience. This was a learning event being first Oly tri. The physical strenght factors I have noticed before also limited ability.

Event comments:

Nothing organizers can do about weather. This was my last event of season and my firt Oly tri. I savored the moment and enjoyed my accomplishment. I did it. Finished my season with a smile on my face.
