Swim
Comments: The race was the first time I've swam in months. I figured it was a short swim in a short pool, how hard could it be? I think my time was reasonable, but the swim took more out of me than I thought it would! Halfway through this thing I was dying and when I hopped out of the pool and took off for my bike my HR was reading 188. Swimming turns out to be quite a workout! What would you do differently?: practice swimming before the next race! Transition 1
Comments: They included transition time in the bike and run times. It would have been nice to know how long I took. Bike
Comments: Overall I'm happy with my ride. I found a good rhythm, rode strongly, and was able to stay within myself on the hills. But they should really adjust times for RR crossings. It wouldn't be hard, you just need the people manning the crossing to write down rider numbers and how long they were there. It just sucks to work so hard for those extra seconds only to lose minutes because of a train. What would you do differently?: Just pedal faster Transition 2
Comments: Included in run time Run
Comments: I don't have a running background and don't have much experience at all with running after jumping off my bike. With the course being so hilly I tried to stay within myself and not cramp. Towards the end I had a fair amount in the tank to finish strong and didn't have any cramps or have to walk for any reason. What would you do differently?: Go harder Post race
Event comments: ADJUST FOR THE RR CROSSING TIMES ORGANIZERS!!! god...do I sound bitter? :) Last updated: 2007-08-22 12:00 AM

I have a cycling background but this was my first ever triathlon. I picked up my packet the day before and rode the bike course. I'm glad I did because it was a very challenging course for a TT and it was good to know where the hills and tight corners were. I got lost more than a few times (what a crappy map!) so ended up doing ~30-35miles for the day after also riding the run course to check out those hills. That day/night before I tried to stay topped off on fluids/electrolytes, and then tried to undo my work by getting a few pre-race beers in me!
Rode the first few miles (technical) miles of the bike course to open up the legs.
