Swim
Comments: I tried something new. I started it off as a modify free style stroke keeping my head out of the water to stear around the washer machine. I felt that worked well and I got into my regular swim after 50-100 yards. I turned at the turn around and kicked someone hard on accident. I felt bad about that. Heading back I kinda feel off my pace about 3/4 of the swim. I thought I would be able to do this in 20 minutes, so my swim workouts were around 15-20 minutes. So, that explains why I felt really fatigue after 15-20 minutes in the swim. What would you do differently?: Training. Transition 1
Comments: It was a long run up to the transition area, but right next to the bike exit. What would you do differently?: Practice transitions. Bike
Comments: Good bike overall. I didn't throw up on the big hill, which I did the previous two years. However, I felt great at parts of the ride and my legs were just cooked at other parts. Kinda weird. I felt good at the end of the ride heading into the transition area. So, that was a bonus. What would you do differently?: Train more. Transition 2
Comments: Well, this was a good time since I had to run about a quarter of a mile from the bike entrance to my rack and to the run start. Anyway, I was really confused because I went to the right row for my rack, then I was standing in front of a white towel noticing that it wasn't my stuff. Oh, I went one rack too far and then found my stuff and was out. What would you do differently?: Not pass my rack and stand infront of someone's stuff looking dumbfounded. Run
Comments: I was worried about the run because my BRicks have been really painful. Luckily I felt great and I started to really build my pace on the downhill around 2 miles in. Finished up real strong. What would you do differently?: Maybe pick up the pace earlier, but I was worried about my running, well hard effort running, endurance. Train more, notice the trend. Post race
Warm down: Walked around grabed some water and a banana and a bagel. Went home to my parents house where we had a nice brunch with a lot of my family coming to visit. It was a great day. What limited your ability to perform faster: Training. But I wanted to get back into weight training after Patriot, so I've cut back on all of my Tri training. Maybe next year I'll try to have more of a balance between the two. Event comments: It's a huge race, but a lot of fun. I've done it the past 4 years and I plan on doing it my entire Tri career. Woke up at 4:45 and had coffee and one pack of oatmeal. Loaded up my Dad's truck and headed to the race site. Once there, I picked up my race packet, set up my transition area. Nothing too exciting here.
Did a quick, real quick run just to try and stretch out the legs. Put on my wetsuit and left the transition area as it was closing. I did get a little swim in and felt how quick the tide was moving.
