Swim
Comments: Despite the chest pain from the wake board fall last weekend, the swim went OK. I got blasted at the start - some dude knoked off my goggles which pretty much sent me to the back of the pack. Once I got going, I was fine. The distance was easy - I need to work on speed. What would you do differently?: Be more aggressive at the start - maybe try to be up front and sprint the first 100 before trying to draft. So far all of my wade starts have been a battle in the middle with me losing. Transition 1
Comments: Pretty much as expected. Everyting went quick including getting the wetsuit off plus I took the time to wear the Garmin. What would you do differently?: Learn to get into the shoes while on the bike. This seems like he least of my problems. Bike
Comments: Zipps on a rental bike - Gotta love it. Julia 'let me' use her 606's and it actually made the rental bike perform reasonably well. Julia keeps telling me its the engine but I think its because another pair of race wheels isn't in the budget. What would you do differently?: Buy a bike box. Transition 2
Comments: Decided at T1 that I wasn't going to wear socks. My running shoes didn't go on well and I still have blisters - I won't provide a photo. What would you do differently?: Wear socks. The 10-15 seconds won't matter. Run
Comments: SURVIVAL - Really Hot and Really Humid. My legs were cooked. Never have my legs felt so heavy during any training brick or sprint tri. The 1st mile was at an 8:00 pace and then I was done. There were aid stations every mile and every mile I had 1 cup on the head and 1 cup to drink. Did I mention it was freakin' HOT. What would you do differently?: Nutrition probably was a factor. I took in 1 Gel / 1 bar / 2 bottles on the bike. Does more carbs + more fluid = more energy at the end? This maybe is where I fell apart. Post race
Warm down: Water, Water, Water. Event comments: This was my first OLY. I finished, I had alot of support, the swim and bike were decent, and most important I had fun. With that said I had a great race. The distance was fine and I'll look forward to my 1st 1/2IM next year in Hawaii with D3. Last updated: 2007-08-27 12:00 AM

Up at 5:30 - Coffee (Dunkin Donuts of course) and a PB&J. Julia came with - got to the race site at 6:45. Set up transition and warm up.
A 10 minute light run with Julia. Water temp was 76 so the race was wetsuit legal - can't say I was disappointed.
