Pre-race routine:

Up at 0430 and off to the race to get a good spot for the bike. Ate some oatmeal and yogurt with a cup of coffee. The first triathlon for me is a reverse Sprint so I am a bit uncertain about the swim at the end.
Event warmup:

Some light stretching and a light 1/2 mile jog.
Swim
  • 11m 11s
  • 383 yards
  • 02m 55s / 100 yards
Comments:

Too many people in the pool and no room to pass. I just held my place and only got around a couple of competitors.
What would you do differently?:

Get in the pool sooner so that there would not be some many other competitors.
Transition 1
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

Reverse Sprint. Time to dismount bike and get to pool was very quick.
What would you do differently?:

Practice racking the bike as I had some trouble with that aspect.
Bike
  • 27m 18s
  • 9.32 miles
  • 20.48 mile/hr
Comments:

Great ride and only got passed on the last part of the first lap by the guy who won the event. Pushed really hard to make up for time lost on the run.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster so I would not have to run so hard
Transition 2
  • 04m 40s
Comments:

Reverse Sprint Triathlon. Had a tough time getting my running shoes off and my bike shoes on. Will definitely try to do my next tri with the shoes already clipped although I had no issues clipping in.
What would you do differently?:

Practice, practice, practice.
Run
  • 29m 32s
  • 3.35 miles
  • 08m 49s  min/mile
Comments:

Quite hilly course with little wind due to running on a paved nature trail.
What would you do differently?:

Need to train a little more with some 1/4 mile repeats.
Post race
Warm down:

Light stretching and lots of fluids.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Upper respiratory cold limited my ability on the run along with not running enough at a race pace. Practicing the transitions especially going from running to bike.

Event comments:

The positive note that I must remember is that it was my first triathlon and I finished. I would have liked to have my time under 1:05 but I definitely learned some tricks of the trade and will apply them to my next one. One more tri at the Sprint length and off to conquer an Olympic distance tri.
