Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 123/256
Pre-race routine:

For breakfast, I ate scrambled eggs. I also ate some sport jelly beans and drank diluted gatorade while watching my boyfriend swim.
Event warmup:

Walking along the lake rooting for my boyfriend; video taped him getting out of the water; held in nervous pee.
Swim
  • 36m 47s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 27s / 100 meters
Comments:

This is what I worried about the most, but once I jumped in I was very calm. I would say it was my favorite part of the race. Very comfortable; I was very surprised.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe not start way,way out dead last. I found myself trying to get past people who were at a dead stop in the beginning.
Transition 1
  • 04m 44s
Comments:

Getting out of the wetsuit while still being dizzy after the swim was a challenge. I finally gave up, sat down on my towel, and slipped it off into the mud. Had to wipe off my muddy feet, get my socks on (also a challenge), bike shoes, put on the helmet, and get my bike off the rack (hard to do with an aerobar).
What would you do differently?:

maybe put some suit juice or pam around the ankles.
Bike
  • 1h 26m 47s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 17.18 mile/hr
Comments:

Just tried my best to avoid the potholes, water bottles, stranded cyclists, bike pumps, etc. It was pretty cool to ride on lakeshore drive.
What would you do differently?:

I would train a little differently, like ride my bike more.
Transition 2
  • 03m 30s
Comments:

Ouch! First couple (hundred) steps hurt. Stopped to pee (finally) and my legs loosened up a bit.
What would you do differently?:

Do more bricks during training. Practice running on bike shoes.
Run
  • 1h 01m 10s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 09m 51s  min/mile
Comments:

Hurt at first, then became easier. As soon as I hit mile 5, my legs started to burn in anticipation of finishing.
What would you do differently?:

run faster
Post race
Warm down:

Ate a bananna and drank more water. Walked around for a bit with the family and my fellow boyfriend triathete.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of sleep. I was so nervous! I probably slept for an hour while my boyfriend drooled. I wanted to drool too. I have to say though, overall I kept my mind set on not stopping - and I didn't (well, only to pee) and I am very happy that I didn't listen to my rotten half that was telling me to stop.

Event comments:

Can't wait to do it again next year!
