Probably the hardest swim yet for me do to the chop. Immediatly went to breathing on every other stroke and even struggled with that as I seemed to be constantly sucking water. Additionally, was fighting current the entire 2nd leg as current kept pushing me in. Over all, I am happy with the swim for the fact there was a lot to learn there.
What would you do differently?:

It was tough but hopfully I can learn from it. I probably should have just tried to relax and gone with my normal breath every 3rd stroke but at the time, I seemed to be fighting everything so didn't even think twice about going to every other.

Another long run from water to transition and once again, got the shaft on the transition setup as my age group was across the street from Mikes group. I thought I hit the lap on my stop watch when I got out of the water but I didn't so no T1.
What would you do differently?:

Don't think I am wasting a lot of time on any one thing but could do a lot of things better which would add up. Planning on getting new bike shoes next season and will get a pair that's more snug and then I'll go without socks. Additionally, if I ever lose the weight, going with a tri top under the wetsuit will save time putting that on after the swim. However I don't think I'll ever get to the point of trying to get into the clipped in shoes while moving.

I was dissapointed in the bike portion race of the last race (Solana Beach) so I tried to go out a bit harder and push some.
What would you do differently?:

I need to spend more time on the details when setting up transition. After I got started I saw that I had not engaged the front brake after taking off the front wheel on the drive down. Additionally, after the race I decided to check (just for laughs) and sure enough, the back brakes were rubbing against the back wheel so it wasn't free spinning but it probably didnt impact my time that much. More learning!

What would you do differently?:

Not much. Once again I don't see me taking off the shoes while riding anytime soon which means I will also not be hopping off a moving bike in biking shoes.

Pace was really slow and I knew after mile 1 that repeating the sub 24 minute time from Solana beach was going to be real tough. The harder bike segment probably had something to do with the slow run but felt good with the effort as I felt like I pushed it pretty hard the whole run.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure what I could have done. Mentally I was pushing as hard as I physically could so...

Event comments:

I wasn't to excited about doing this race after spending 5+ hours in a car on the freeway the day before to pick up the race packet. It was farther south then I expected and traffic from OC to SD was worse then normal. Even kicked around the idea of skipping the race. Glad I didn't. I really like the course and after doing so many courses that loop up and back 2 or 3 times on 1 street, this was a nice change. Originally I would have said this is a one time event for me but I'd do this race again, just have to not be so cheap and have the packet mailed to me.
