Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4:00am showered and put on tri suit and clothes. laura drove me from my parents to the waterfront. About a 15 minute drive. I was still real unsure about where to seat myself with the interval start. I was still unsure of the course change.
Event warmup:

Stretched and sat along the walk and waited for the pros.
Swim
  • 1h 48m 25s
  • 4224 yards
  • 02m 34s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was a decent swim for me. I had planned on 1:55 so this was a PR for me.
What would you do differently?:

Settle the first 200 yards. I had a panic attack and almost hyper ventilated until I began to pray and calm down. After that I found a rythm. I would have not looked up so much I was staying on good course.
Transition 1
  • 10m 3s
Comments:

The transition was about a .25 long. I also stopped to Pee. But it was about how longI had alotted. I was really hoping for about 8.
What would you do differently?:

Ran with the bike through the grassy part. That could have saved a minute.

What would you do differently?:

Nothing on the ride. I may have carried less water bottles because I had four but never went through them before the next stop.
Transition 2
  • 15m 41s
Comments:

I love the fact they take your bike but wish they would have gotten them at the beginning of the shoot.
What would you do differently?:

Too much time. I needed tocut that by 5 minutes.

Post race
Warm down:

Sat. I began to drive heave. I think I needed food. Was as nausas as ever. My feet hurt so bad i could not walk.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Blister, inexperience. I also needed to work harder on the run.

Event comments:

My wife was my saving Grace. She wanted this as bad as I did. Her coming across the finish line with me was so fitting. She is "Ironwife". The biggest supporter that I have. This was really just the day that God shined on me. Everything just fell together. Coming in right in time what more could you ask for. I got every penny worth.

Course: The course was a staggered start. First time ever. Because of this style start 37 minutes was added to the swim/finish time. That is how long it took us to get all toget into the water. I started about 8 minutes after the first age grouper who was the Navy guy from the Reality show The Bachelor. The course was down a protected channel because of the current. Two days before during the gatorade start I swam and went 200 yards in the wrong direction that is how steady the current was. The course was well marked and great once you got around the turn. The you headed downstream made for a fun swim. At one point it was really swallow and you could touch. It was kind of strange because I was swimming along and bumped into a guy just standing there.

Course: Flat and fast. I was dying and wanting to quit. I kept running into people that where there to supprt me. My wife was at mile 19 the wall and told me to keep going. She styed along for the next few miles yelling atmeto keep the pace. I bagan to pick out people ahead and my goal was to catch them. At mile 24 I looked at my watch and knew that if i walked a 14 minute mile I would finish at 17:00:00 on the button minuswhat time I had started my watch. Then I foundout that they were keeping the finishing line open for 37 more minutes. But I was determined to finishin regulation time. But then I saw my mom with my kids so I stopped to get my son. So my finish time is 17:00:00 and 1 Jack second.
