Swim
Comments: I felt horrible during this swim. I felt like my wetsuit was cutting into my throat and made breathing difficult. But I also got really unnerved at the start. I began the MOP. And just didn't feel comfortable there. There were a number of times I stopped doing freestyle - and just kept my head up out of the water and either waded or did breast stroke. It felt like I was out there for 15 minutes. I completely thought my time was absolutely horrible and was pretty surprised to find out what it was. On the way back in the tide really moved me - which I'm sure is how I made up time. All in all...I just wanted to survive the swim and get the heck out of the water. What would you do differently?: I don't think I had my wetsuit on "high" enough. So - i'd check that and make sure that my breathing was okay. I also would have started over to the side rather than in the MOP Transition 1
Comments: Nothing wrong with Transition really...i just need more practice. I navigated well for getting out of the water and to transition area. But, i was out of breath. I wanted to run faster...but, I couldn't. I also - in preparation for the ride - stopped and guzzled water at transition. What would you do differently?: Not drink during transition. Run with Bike. I think I really needed to psychologically relax after the swim - and I should have focused on that - and taking long, deep breaths to get back in it. I was just happy to be out of the water. Bike
Comments: I loved this course! I'm still getting used to the bike - but this was time I got out on the bike and just had a great time. All the rolling hills and curves were just fun! I did okay on the hills. At one point I lost time because of the traffic on the road. I felt pretty strong throughout the ride - although it doesn't necessarily show in my time. What would you do differently?: DRINK ON THE BIKE...especially since the salt water swim and the gallons I swallowed. Never used Big gear - which I would do. Transition 2
Comments: No comments really...can't recall what was going on Run
Comments: I had an okay pace. I couldn't pick it up at the end at all though. I don't think I was going all out. It felt comfortable, but just couldn't pick it up as much as I would have liked at the end. What would you do differently?: I would have worn my sunglasses. Post race
Warm down: Jumped in water with friends! Yapped and yapped and then cheered! What limited your ability to perform faster: Hydration (as always) on the bike. Placing myself in the wrong position for the swim. Train more! Event comments: 2nd ever....just another notch in the belt. Practice, practice, practice. I'm looking forward to doing it again next year. It was after this race that I decided I wanted to use sprints as training really...to get ready for transitions and get used to the group swims.
