Pre-race routine:

Stayed at the Inn at FCF so nice & close. Got up 1.5 hours before start, ate some cereal, had coffee.
Event warmup:

Rode over from the Inn, seeing deer along the way, trotted to make sure my shoes were fine, swam 300 yards to get my rhythm.

Don't bother with shoes on the runup.

Well it was darn hot & I was dying out there, just not as badly as some others. Got to see Mom again & family along the run. Managed to pass someone in my age group on an uphill in the last mile, really rare for me.

I'd go back any time I had a chance. The cost was low, venue beautiful and race support great.
