Pre-race routine:

just enough time to find some BTers, set up..vacillate over whether or not to wear a wetsuit..decided against-stopped at a gas station down the road to hit the rest room-good call as the lines wee long..& my 2nd stop was the woods..!Guy parked nxt to had some GREAT tunes!
Event warmup:

zip..but thanks to c2 for maintaining his usual even keel..
brief chat with max & may & joanne en route to swim start, saw a friend from hometown (who did her first oly -in 2;30 no less!!)saw more Bters in passing & at the swim satrt - SO nice to be among friends!!
Swim
  • 33m 5s
  • 1408 yards
  • 02m 21s / 100 yards
Comments:

my swimming sux..opted against wetsuit -the advantage it gives my slow sorry butt doesn't make up for the time it takes me to get out of the foolish thing, the overheating before, and the difficulty breast stroking which I can do faster than freestyle!navigation is usually pretty good for me but this day it was bad..zigzagging all over
I REALLY need to focus on swimming- I will never be a "good" swimmer- but it irks me to be SO bad at it!
Fun having friend in my wave..and LMAO seeing kathy G WALKING in the weeds !!!
Fun hearing Bt cheering section(THANKS) coming up those slippery steps..
What would you do differently?:

just about everything. so there. On the bright side- I have no fear or discomfort in the water- I just can't get anything goin. Interestingly, my "swim" (Using the term loosely) has been "smoother" (again, using the term loosely) these past few weeks solo at the lake -both with & without wetsuit- but that totally vanished at race day. so..group swims at Walden need to make the priority list
Transition 1
  • 02m 58s
Comments:

just "OK"..did remember gel this time, & new shoes made that part a little smoother
What would you do differently?:

just make practicing this a goal next season- I have to cut time wherever I can- & there is no excuse to not be fast in transition
Bike
  • 1h 19m 45s
  • 24.9 miles
  • 18.73 mile/hr
Comments:

reasonable on the bike & getting up to speed, decent not stellar ride,
What would you do differently?:

need to be much stronger on hills..and get my average speed on flats up a bit more..am curious what benefit a lighter & more aero bike, gears would have but until I feel my skills & strength are improved guess it doesn't really matter..
Transition 2
  • 01m 25s
Comments:

moved along but could cut a bit more here if didn't stop to put cap on water after sipping-twice!Saw Pam on my way out finishing up her t2..and cappy by the chute hollering at us to go faster !
Run
  • 55m 53s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 09m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

legs didn't feel too wooden after bike which was good- but it was hot, and felt overheated pretty much the whole run despite pouring water on my head & body at every stop, passed sue in the run out, stopped just after 1st mile for a guy with a cramp-hope my salty pretzels helped! and found stacy somewhere sround mile 2? that was good- kept us both chatting & moving at an ok pace..(THANKS)..I had a minor back of the rt thigh cramp that didn't get to a red zone- salty pretzels & drinking..at mi 5 the hill fet hard..and could keep keepin on but not really kick it up last mile..but tho hot didn't feel like hurling or anything at finish..was really KEWL seeing BT jockers & racers at the Finish!!GREAT ending!
What would you do differently?:

another gel- my own drinks..an push a little harder 2nd half
Post race
Warm down:

walked around ..water, orange slice..wet rags on head LOL..chat ..then a dip in the lake that felt like NIRVANA with Pam & Kathy, joined by the other Bt crew

What limited your ability to perform faster:

the million dollar question!

Event comments:

This race is well run, a good course & venue, and a wonderful chance to connect with other BTers.Thoroughly enjoyable all the way around.Wish I had been at the finish for each & every Bter..and had taken pictures..Didn't get a chance to spend as much time with each person as I would like..& missed a few people entirely..but so it goes.
The support of other racers * jockers ..such a blur at the time- don't get to properly acknowledge just how much is appreciated & enjoyed- so THANK YOU VERY MUCH
