Skaneateles Labor Day Race Weekend
70F / 21C
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 30m 59s
Overall Rank = 134/375
Age Group = 15-19
Age Group Rank = 3/8
Pre-race routine:

Got up at four, ate bowl of Wheaties(breakfast of champions) with raisins. On the road by 5:45. Long drive. Clif bar at about 7:00.
Event warmup:

Got there a little later than usual, so had a shortened warmup. Registed, got marked and got time chip. Race seemed much more crowded than last years, but it did sell out this year as opposed to last. Set up transition, put wet suit on. Got in the water.
Swim
  • 18m 21s
  • 800 yards
  • 02m 17s / 100 yards
Comments:

The water was COLD. Other than that, I was very happy with he swim. Not a spectacular time, but pretty good for me. First race with a wetsuit as well. Swimming in the wetsuit was a possible concern for me but it actually felt pretty natural and non-restrictive. Went a little hard out of the gate, but half way through began to pace myself better. Stuck close to the buoys as much as i could and just swam.
What would you do differently?:

Train more for the swim. If i had the same dedication towards this part of the race as the next two, i would've been much better off.
Transition 1
  • 01m 59s
Comments:

Dizzy out of the water, not the first time to happen. Sat down to take wetsuit off then went.
What would you do differently?:

Have to get this down to a science. Be more automated, less methodical.
Bike
  • 45m 25s
  • 15 miles
  • 19.82 mile/hr
Comments:

Fun bike course, I think. Didnt have a hammergel to slam as i took off but the gatorade made up for it. Just tried to keep a hard, but not unreasonable pace. Ended up racing hard with several other guys as we moved up hrough the pack. All in all, good ride.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 2
  • 01m 14s
Comments:

Really no excuse for this slow time. Just have to learn hoe to do a flying dismount and just move faster in transition.
What would you do differently?:

Flying dismount
Run
  • 24m
  • 3 miles
  • 08m  min/mile
Comments:

Pretty good run. Took it easy for the first half km or so then ramped up the effort. Really pushed after the hill.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and strectched a little bit. Talked with family and girlfriend and grabbed as much red bull as i could. Found out I made the podium for my age group and was pretty pumped.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The biggest limiter by far was my swim performance. A better swim would definitely produced at least another spot in my age group. Also, transitions need to be faster.

Event comments:

Good race in a nice town. Definitely one of my favorites. I would highly recommend this for a first timer, as it was my first race last year. Made the podium, woot!
