Swim
Comments: the water was really cold. when i got in the water it took me a minute till i could breathe, after a minute i couldn't feel my feet and hands anymore. since we had to line up on a rope to start there wasn't too much hitting. just a little jam around the buoy. i didn't do great, but it could have been worse. What would you do differently?: absolutely nothing. except for training more :) Transition 1
Comments: we had to run 500 meters from the water to transition, then another 500m to the bike and another 500 meters out of transition. the running in transition was bad as my left calf started cramping as soon as i got out of the water. it was raining so hard that we couldn't set up our helmet and stuff on the bike so it took a while to get it all out of the box. plus not having it on the bike like i'm used to made me kinda nervous and i double checked if i had everything like three times. What would you do differently?: run faster, set up the stuff on my bike even when it raines, practise transition more often. Bike
Comments: over all only 165 meters climb. the road was very wet and there were some bad corners. i didn't want to fall so i took it slow around the corners. plus we were warned that there are some steep hills which i couldn't believe but everyone i had talked to told me there really are steep hills... so i took it slow and waited for the hills and when i finally got to the turning point i realized that there wouldn't be any. What would you do differently?: not listen to north germans when they talk about hills!!!! Transition 2
Comments: had to run like 500m to where i had to put my bike. my feet were all dirty and wet from the ride so i took my time to dry them and then put on my running shoes. What would you do differently?: run faster, hurry up a little Run
Comments: my calf was still craping and at kilometer 2 i twisted my ankle and it felt like someone's stabbing me with a knife every step i took... so i started concentrating on my left thumb just to ignore the pain... i got passed by soooo many people... the only two i was able to pass were two guys walking :( even though i was really slow compared to others my time was alright for me and i felt pretty good running (except for the pain of course)... What would you do differently?: train more, get faster Post race
Warm down: erdinger alkoholfrei (alcohol free beer) :D What limited your ability to perform faster: almost no training for the past two month because of a bad bronchitis plus my allergy. and of course my weight Event comments: it was a great race. there were so many people cheering!! it was organized really good, everything was on time. and since there were the world championships i could watch real good sports and even meet some of the world class athletes! finding my spot in the transition zone which wasn't easy as it was set up for about 2000 bikes, setting up everything. tried to stay warm as it was really cold and it rained like crazy. then put on my wetsuit, tried to calm my parents' nerves and then it was already time to get ready for my start.
