Swim
Comments: Started in the middle in the front to get out quick and out of the washing machine. Strategy worked well. Caught the front group on the last leg. Very pleased with the swim. What would you do differently?: Train harder to get faster. Transition 1
Comments: Would have been great if I didn't start putting on some other dude's clothes! Same color bike, helmet, cycle shoes, everything! Right next to my spot! That cost me a full minute. Then I was rucking and had trouble with my shirt. What would you do differently?: Pay better attention. Bike
Comments: Need a better bike. MPH was right at the goal I set for myself. Pleased with the effort and result. What would you do differently?: Train harder, longer. Get new bike. Transition 2
Comments: Ran in bike shoes a good hundred yards on spaghetti legs. Not fun. Asked why there weren't "spaghetti-leg" pills in the goodie bag. My daughter, Nicole shouted her support and encouragement while I was in T2: "Dad! You're too slow! Go faster!" Love you, too, Sweetie! What would you do differently?: Slip feet out of shoes and run that way. Maybe get 20-30 seconds? Run
Comments: Sally passed me at about 1.5 miles. Didn't want to break her concentration so I just waved to the back of her head. One guy, (also 42 years old) kep passing me then walking and I'd pass him. Finally at about 2 miles, this 30 year old girl passed me and I said, "enough!" I lengthened my stride and told myself to gut it out the last mile. Pulled away from the other old guy. Heard his tri-club buddy yelling at him, "Go get him! GO!" But dude was all, "No, man! I can't!" So, I felt good about that. Then this 60 year old guy passed me like I was going backwards. Triathlon is humbling. What would you do differently?: Trip people. Just kidding. Train harder, farther. Think I did pretty well considering I hate to run, my knees hate to run, and I was hitting the wall at 1 mile only 2 weeks ago. Think I'll be much better as time goes on. Post race
Warm down: Walked around. Tried to hug my family but they were fresh and could run faster than me. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of distance in training. Event comments: Had a great time with new friends and old family. Thought I performed well for my first race. Confident I can trim 2 minutes in transitions and another 3-4 off the bike an runs. Would like to be under 1:20:00 for my next one. Last updated: 2007-09-04 12:00 AM

Pasta for dinner. Got up and ate my wheaties. Threw my wife and kids in the truck and headed for Tempe around 4:15am. Of course as I was checking the tire pressure, I notced a slow leak next to the rear valve stem. Replaced the tube in the dark and took it to Landis to check. They tell me I've got the wrong stem on the new tube. Said that with less pressure and a little luck it should last for the 12 miles in the race. GREAT!
Stretched. Treaded water for 15 minutes waiting for the horn.
