Swim
Comments: We went up to Long branch the day before to pick up packets, hang out on the beach and swim. So we were familiar with the water temps and the sloped beach entry. Water was clean and clear. I had a fast swim with only one other guy in my wave beating me out of the water. What would you do differently?: I am used to being in the middle of the pack and relying on others for my direction in the water. But today, I had to site those buoyies, and I was somewhat off course for the second one. Not a big deal. Transition 1
Comments: This tri is not an approved TriFed event, and there were no timing chips. We did not have split times, just our ending time. I had very good transitions. This was my first race using my new bike shoes that I kept on the bike in both T1 and T2. It was pretty easy to do this after practicing a bit yesterday in the parking lot of the hotel. The only race I have done where you were allowed to ride your bike "in" the transition area, but I kept it mostly honest by jogging out with the bike... What would you do differently?: Practice the shoe-on-the-bike transtions some more. Bike
Comments: I thought I maintained good cadence and speed as much as I could considering the turns and poor road conditions. Transition 2
Comments: Got through T2 very quickly. Run
Comments: I had some trouble about 1/4 into the run with the calves tightening on me, but I kept the strides short and worked through it. I kept a good pace the rest of the way, and kicked it up a notch for the last 1/4 passing a guy who was in front of me out of T2 and the whole run. Post race
Warm down: No warm down really. One great thing about this race is the park itself which has a few outdoor showers. So I headed right to them after finishing for a refreshing shower! Then back to the finish line to cheer on my fiance and everyone else. What limited your ability to perform faster: I think I went as fast as I could have today. With the constant turns on the bike and dodging all of the potholes, it was tough to crank it up any faster than I did. My swim was awesome, as were my transitions and I am happy with my run and overall performance. I picked up the award for 3rd in my age group. This event is big on awards. The top 10 male and female finishers get trophies, and then they go into the age group plaques, but I'll take it. Event comments: I have to give the overall race an average in comparison with the other races I have done this summer only because of the bike portion. I still had a great time, and will probably do this race again in the future. Last updated: 2007-09-04 12:00 AM
