Pre-race routine:

Half PBJ sandwich and a banana washed down with H2O at 4:30 AM. Left home around 5:15 for race. Got to race early -- about 6:25 or so, and had my choice for transition spots. Chatted it up with people around me, my fiance, and brother in law whom I just got involved in triathlons. This was his second tri, and he was dreading the 5 mile run.
Event warmup:

Jogged and stretched about 35 minutes prior to race start.
Swim
  • 12m 19s
  • 962 yards
  • 01m 17s / 100 yards
Comments:

Lake was swampy at some points with lake-weed interfering with swim strokes.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really. I felt good in the water.
Transition 1
  • 01m
Comments:

I had tired legs coming out of the water, but by the time I rolled out on the bike, I was ready to go.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Bike
  • 53m 19s
  • 20 miles
  • 22.51 mile/hr
Comments:

I like this bike course. It is one direction, so you just move forward and don't see riders coming back towards transition.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, except maybe try to down some more of my carb drink. Only took two small sips, and that may have hurt me later in the race.
Transition 2
  • 00m 31s
Comments:

Quite a few people (spectators and relay team members) in my way as I crossed the mat into T2, so I had to yell "Look out!" or something like that and they got out of the way. Racked the bike and got out of there real quick!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 39m 9s
  • 5 miles
  • 07m 50s  min/mile
Comments:

I'm not sure what happened on the run today, but I was not myself. This tri season has seen my run times decrease pretty consistantly. I am much better / faster this year than last, and I think that is due to the hill training I work in a couple times a month in 2007. But today, I was fatigued within 2.5 miles and struggled to get to the finish line. I caught up to the 3rd place finisher in my AG, but I couldn't maintain the pace for more than a few minutes, and he passed me and ended up beating me by about 20 seconds overall. That sucked! I was real disapointed with my run, but on the birght side, I killed my overall race time from last year by over 10 minutes, and I picked up an award for 3rd in my AG since the race winner was in my AG. Not too shabby, I guess.

What would you do differently?:

Maybe drink some more on the bike? I am very robotic about my training, and I went out of order (ran hills when I should have done an easy spin on the bike session a week ago) and maybe that hard run right after my last tri was too much?? Not sure, but something wasn't right today. Still much improved from a year ago!
Post race
Warm down:

Had promised myself a dip in the lake as soon as I could, but I went right for the Gatorade after this race! Downed a couple cups and cheered on the other finishers. Brother in law and fiance crossed the line not too far after me, and then we all went for a dip! Felt great.

Stuck around for the awards.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not sure.

Event comments:

Fun race. My third time here. A lot of free stuff given away including spinning bikes and a new Fugi tri bike. Fog and overcast helped with lower temps than expected. Race started 8 minutes late, because cops were late, but no complaints here. I did a few of these DQ events, and overall they get a thumbs up. Down on my run time, but pumped at my overall time! A good race.
