Total Time = 2h 43m 13s
Overall Rank = 84/179
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 12/24
Pre-race routine:

load as much as you can the night before, get up way too early and hope you make it on time.
Event warmup:

jog back to car to retrieve sunglasses which will be necessary once the sun comes up.
Swim
  • 34m 37s
  • 1471 meters
  • 02m 21s / 100 meters
Comments:

I'm stil slow, but I'm getting better. This was my best swim to date. Only real problem was rounding the first buoy when the waves came broadside and the sun was in your eyes. Tried to breath on my weak side but quickly discovered that was too much to ask. So I just knuckled down and continued.
Transition 1
  • 02m 47s
Comments:

long run from the beach made for a slowish transition. Once at the rack, though, socks, shoes and headgear went on smoothly.
Bike
  • 1h 12m 16s
  • 23 miles
  • 19.10 mile/hr
Comments:

I rode this ride exactly as I had planned, especially after the Disco debacle. I kept the HR in the zones I wanted, speed stayed up and the whole thing felt great.
What would you do differently?:

eat more to fuel for the run.
Transition 2
  • 01m 14s
Comments:

I felt this was a smooth transition. I chose not to have the pre-run Gu, though, and felt that decision later.
Run
  • 52m 21s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 08m 26s  min/mile
Comments:

I had a strong run with a particularly strong finish. I did get some hunger pangs at around mile 4, but the on-course refreshments got me through.
What would you do differently?:

eat more on the bike and have that last Gu before hitting T2.
Post race
Warm down:

grab the free stuff to drink.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

maybe that pee I was carrying around since the swim. I just didn't want to stop to go, so I forced myself to deal with it.

Event comments:

I'm giving DA a break on starting the swim late since they more than made up for it by having more potties and water stations. Plus, they got those buoys out in a hurry and that small delay didn't seem to mess anything up. Nice touch to have the color guard.
