Comments: Goggles filled up 3 times in first 200M and i went into breast stroke to fix it. Luckily, it worked for good after that time. I tried to find people to follow in first 1/2 but couldn't. Sighting was OK but I tended to veer left. I felt like I was not pushing too hard and knew a good number of my wave was in front. I was passed by the front of the next wave about 2/3 the way through, so I figured I was doing alright. Breathing was regular around 4 - 6 strokes and every 2 occasionally. As I hit the last buoy, I changed breathing to every 2 so I would not be burned out by T1. Good course and sight lines. What would you do differently?: Fix goggle issue and work on staying straighter. Transition 1
Comments: Still have too much gear for a speedy T1. I opted for gloves and socks since I was unfamiliar with the distance and was not too worried about overall time. Glasses came on wet -- what's with the blurry eyewear today? What would you do differently?: Keep gloves in bag and run faster to area. Bike
Comments: Looking back, I should have been on the bike more. Hills killed me and I was passed routinely by others. I maintained pace on flat and downhill. What would you do differently?: Need to train more. Prior to the race, I rode a total of about 80 miles which does not get me to a competitive level of riding. Transition 2
Comments: As I was waving to the kids after dismounting, I nearly dropped the bike. A swift recovery got me to the rack without missing a beat. Right show got stuck as my finger was inadvertantly pressing down. Oops. Got shoes on quickly and jumped to run course. What would you do differently?: Speed laces? Run
Comments: I had better energy at the onset than I thought I would. Passed 3 people in first half mile and then reality set in when we hit the hills. I had no second gear and thought of walking around mile 2. Drank a lot of water and Cytomax at each stop -- perhaps too much. I could not take advantage of downhills and was on pure willpower after mile 4. Right hammy tightened up in mile 6 and I plodded to a finish. Passed in the last 1/4 mile by a peppy 55 year old woman. It was humbling but awesome to see. What would you do differently?: Need strength to increase hill pace. Drink a little less. I expected 8:30 - 9:00 minute miles and was surprised how slow I went. Post race
Warm down: Stopped. Drank and ate to my heart's content. Enoyed the moment with my family! What limited your ability to perform faster: Training on bike and overall cardio. Event comments: Great course and well run. Was my first Olympic and hit goal of finishing. It can be done on 8 weeks of training. Last updated: 2007-09-06 12:00 AM

Arrived at 6:15. Ate 2 bananas, Clif bar and a 32 oz. Gatorade. Walked from lot to Race Area as warm up. Peed a lot. Stretched a bit -- focused on waking up.
Got in water for a few minutes to acclimate. Goggles got foggy and would clear up. Sign of things to come...
