Swim
Comments: I don't know if I was ready for the swim. I know my nerves played a HUGE role in it, but the pool was also deeper, longer, and more crowded than I am used to doing at the pool at my hotel. The first guy in my lane had a really quick time and he passed me at least 3 times. What would you do differently?: I think the major thing I can do is to when I am practicing at the pool at my hotel, swim two lengths before taking a break, to prepare for the longer pool. That will be one way I can improve. Transition 1
Comments: T1 time is calculated in with the bike ride...but for my FIRST EVER transition, I felt it went ok. I got out to my bike after some people from my wave, and was on the bike before they were, so I was pretty happy about that. What would you do differently?: Take an extra 10 seconds or so to dry off the suit a little more. Bike
Comments: My bike worked like junk for the whole route though. I've had a problem with either my gears or the petals for the last week now, and just honestly couldn't afford to get it looked at...which was probably a dumb move on my part. I never really felt comfy pushing the bike hard. What would you do differently?: More hill training. I feel like I got the gear shifting down pretty well except for one occasion, which I nearly dumped the bike going uphill, that would have been fun to see. I had only done one 13 mile bike ride prior to this, so doing some more longer rides would be a good start too. Transition 2
Comments: I honestly don't remember T2....so I guess it went well? Run
Comments: I knew I was going to walk most of it. I tried running at times, and that worked out ok, but I would have liked to have run more obviously. The uneven ground really sucked. Kinda pissed me off that NONE of the volunteers knew how far into the run course they were. I asked at least 6-8 people, and they all gave me the same blank stare when I asked them how far I had to go.... What would you do differently?: Well, obviously I'm going to keep trying to run more and more. I don't think I'll EVER be a runner, but I just wanna be able to hold my own, and run longer. Post race
Warm down: After I did a somersault over the finish line (on purpose) I looked around to see that my friend had been giving the wrong information by 2 race volunteers as to where the finish line would be. I guess they moved the finish line the day before, and didn't let some of the volunteers know this...kinda pissed me off because now I don't have a picture of the finish (or the amazing somersault) Had a couple cookies, some water, some powerade, and got the heck out of town :) What limited your ability to perform faster: I did as good as I could :) Event comments: As much as I appreciate the volunteers, I'd say it was 50/50 on good ones/horrible ones. I passed 3 guys on the bike, who were talking on their cell phones as I passed them. None of the run station volunteers knew how far into the run I was, and the couple that told my friend the wrong place to be. But overall, for my first tri, it was a great experience and I can't wait to do it again. Last updated: 2007-09-12 12:00 AM

Since it was my first race, I had the jitters pretty bad. I wanted to make sure I woke up earlier than normal, got to the event earlier than normal, and got everything set up earlier than normal...so it left alot of time for just plain being nervous. Had a powerade on the way to the race, a sausage biscuit, hash brown and Orange Juice from McD's (yeah, probably not the best move...but I don't think it hindered me at all) and got to the event about an hour and a half before the meeting.
Basic stretching, didn't wanna do too much, because I needed to conserve all the energy I could.
