Pre-race routine:

Stayed over at my friend's house and we got up later than expected so forgot to get something to eat - luck for me I remembered we had sport beans!

Swim was full of people but it wasn't that bad (other than the water quality!) I was actually too warm in the swim - I thought the temperature would have been colder but then I am more used to doing open water swims without my wetsuit this year.
What would you do differently?:

Should have looked closer at the buoy placement and realized that the 3rd and 4th buoys were further away from shore - I think I wasted some time having to re-direct my swim to go out away from shore.

Long run up the sand - our rack of bikes was so full that it was difficult to actually get my bike out. Couldn't be helped though.

Nothing for this race - with so many people and so many new triathletes it isn't worth trying to squeeze into an opening and cause a crash - afterall Long Beach is about having fun.

Actually this felt slow - it felt like I didn't get into my shoes quick enough but then again when I saw the time I was very pleased with my transition.

If I had more room on the rack I would have put my shoes closer.

Was actually feeling the effort from the bike when I started the run but settled in and did fine - still working on improving my run!

Event comments:

An enjoyable race - great for beginners or for those who want to do a good but short race. The number of racers though should be factored into how fast you can expect to go.

Course: Good course - but second loop was very busy and most people did not stay on the right. (I would yell on your left but most people didn't seem to know what I meant! So I am hoping that as I moved to my right after I passed them that they will work it out for next time!) I did slow down a lot on the turns and at the bottleneck on the bridge but I would rather be a little safer than faster - especially at Long Beach where there are so many beginners.
