Swim
Comments: Ok, so my goal was to win the swim, at least for the individual racers (did that :)) But also I secretly wanted to win overall. So there was a guy named Mark Johnson, who was doing the swim portion of a Sprint relay. He went to 2 olympics for the 400/200m freestyle. Apparently he retired 2 years ago, and has been swimming masters ever since. Anyways, at the start, it was a little crazy, but I've seen worse. I decided to make my move right from the start, so I did, and I ended up on the feet of the aforementioned guy. I didnt draft as we both ended up going off course. I stayed with him as we pulled away from the pack. The closer we got to the beach, the more I closed the gap, from about 10 seconds behind, to 5, and eventually caught right up. We came out of the water head to head and he tagged his cyclist and I took off my wetsuit and hopped on the bike! Anyways, I didnt actually realize who it was I was swimming against until after the race was over. But WOW was I happy What would you do differently?: NOTHING! SO SO SO HAPPY!!! :D :D :D Transition 1
Comments: Not a bad transition! A little slow with the bike shoes! What would you do differently?: No idea! Went fine! Bike
Comments: GREAT bike ride for me I passed the guy doing the relay about 500m into the bike and continued. THe first hill is a DOOZY to say the least! It's about 2.5km straight uphill, with some quite steep sections. After that it flattens out for a bit, on a low angle downhill on the way out, and a low-angle uphill on the way back, then turning right on to another road which was basically uphill on the way out, and down on the way back, then all the way back to transition! I got passed about 6 times, by mostly guys in my age group, which is basically a record for me! I was so happy with my biking! What would you do differently?: Nothing! Except train more in winter (didn't actually start training until March) Transition 2
Comments: Stupidly I racked my bike on the wrong side of the rack! I was kinda slow getting my shoes on too! What would you do differently?: Finally invest in speed laces! Run
Comments: Not a bad run, but I've been battling a left-calf injury for the last few weeks and it definitely slowed me down. I increased my cadence a ton so I wouldnt have to lift my knees so high, but I knew I wasnt running my normal pace. I passed one guy on the whole run, which is way different from my usual races! I guess that means my biking is improving :D :D :D What would you do differently?: Not be kinda injured? Post race
Warm down: Talked with Sebastian and Liam (guy who won) for a while, waited for results to come out! Then I just cycled home (6km from my University) What limited your ability to perform faster: Calf-injury Too much wine the night before? Event comments: Brand new race, but it was very well put together for a first time! Will be back next year! Last updated: 2007-09-16 12:00 AM

Last night was my girlfriend's and mine 1st anniversary!!! We went out for a beautiful and delicious dinner and I probably drank too much wine for sure! It was an awesome night!!
Felt great this morning when I woke up at 5:30, albeit a little tired!
Took the bus to the race, as we had to check our bikes in yesterday and leave them overnight!
Nadda!! Watched the brutal half-iron swim start, the fastest non-relay swimmer was 39 minutes, much slower then usual for sure!
