Pre-race routine:

Got my race packet and picked up wife's, daughter's as well. Got changed into my running clothes, then talked with some friends. There is a family with the same last name that have 4 children like my family. Except their kids are older. Their kids range from 17 to about 7, while mine go 12 to 2. They home school like we do and our daughters who are 3 months apart in age, are fast friends. Their 11 year old is a little faster than Trigirl10, but that might be changing. Their 11 year old didn't run last night, because of knee issues.
Event warmup:

Quick run around the parking lot.

Comments:

I started out a little easier than I could have. I was trying to make sure I didn't blow up on the run.

I thought when I hit the 1 mile mark the person reading the stop watch told me 7:14-5, and I thought I had gone out way too fast. I am guessing their watch was off, since I know when I started mine, but I could not see the elapse time.

Mile 2 I was just trying to keep a good pace, I know I slowed down but I had not thought I was that much slower. I about gave up the goal without meaning to.

Mile 3 - I was both watching my pace and my time left. I had hit the 1.XX mile to go mark with 11:00 to go on the goal. I just kept pushing and trying to not slow down. I picked up the pace a little, passed seveal people around this point. I was just working on keeping my own race under control. I felt good, but was starting to worry a little about puking because I was pushing so hard.

Hit the 3 mile beep and knew I didn't have a lot of time or distance to go, picked up the pace a little more. It was a good thing I did, other wise this would not have a race under 25:00. I heard my Garmin beep telling me I was done, about 50 feet or so so the mileage was a little off for the race.
What would you do differently?:

Try to hold the pace a little better in the 2nd mile.
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed a water then headed right back out to find Trigirl10. Ran in with her, encouraging her to finish strong. Then headed back out to find Speedyboy9 and ran in with him. He was struggling some, he has not been running much so I was amazed to hear he finished in 30:42 or so. Headed back out to find my wife and swimmyboy, they were both walking along about 1/2 mile from the finish. Jogged and walked in with swimmyboy, he was really having a hard time. Just was not doing very well, but finished none the less.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My weight, I have about 15-20 extra pounds that would help me speed up ALOT to drop them.

Event comments:

They have a pot luck after this race, last year was better, but this year was pretty good.
