Total Time = 2h 02m 57s
Overall Rank = 7/
Age Group = Collegiate
Age Group Rank = 2/29
Pre-race routine:

Oatmeal and coffee at the hotel, must remember to bring a bowl and spoon next time!

Floundered around w/ all my gear
Event warmup:

None, almost missed the start, like usual
Swim
  • 22m 16s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 22s / 100 yards
Comments:

Good swim overall, first suit with the new wetsuit. It let in more water than I would have liked, but it couldn't have been too bad because I was still first out of the water! Navigation was a little difficult because it was hard to get good "depth perception" when looking at several buoys in a line (hard to tell which one was closest). Coming back to shore was especially difficult because the sun was blinding.
What would you do differently?:

Memorize the course beforehand.
Transition 1
  • 01m 49s
Comments:

Ack! It went about as well as I expected for the first time that I tried transitioning out of my new wetsuit, suit got stuck on both heels, but wasn't too difficult to get off.
What would you do differently?:

Plan out my transition better before the race, and VISUALIZE
Bike
  • 59m 57s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 24.87 mile/hr
Comments:

Fun ride, I enjoyed "chasing" the cop car in front of me (since I was leading for most of the ride). However, I fatigued more quickly than I usually do, and I didn't feel like I was going as fast as I would like to towards the second half.
What would you do differently?:

Practice grabbing Gatorade bottle and GU on the move
Transition 2
  • 01m 50s
Comments:

SLOW! Went for the sockless run again, but both feet got stuck as I tried to get into my shoes. For both shoes, I had to loosen the laces more and jam my feet in. Then I didn't tie by right shoe as tight as would have liked.
What would you do differently?:

Put Body Glide or other lube around the ankles and tongue of my shoes

Loosen shoes up a lot more before the race
Run
  • 35m 57s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 05m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt a lot more fatigued than usual, and I wasn't nearly as strong as I normally am on the run. But hey, you can't do a best time every race, and it wasn't too bad. I managed not to run into any serious stomach issues.
What would you do differently?:

Practice/apply my nutrition on the bike better
Post race
Warm down:

Ate a HUGE hamburger, chatted with girls from Vanderbelt, rested/closed my eyes in the shade while waiting for awards

What limited your ability to perform faster:

stress about things going on in my life outside of the race (bike wreck last week, 5 tests this week, parent vs. triathlon issues, etc.)

lack of focus and preparation before the race

Event comments:

Overall, it was still a great day
