Swim
Comments: Oops!!!! right from the start I headed the wrong direction and almost into the side stone wall. Luckily my hands hitting the muck (sp?) gave me an early warning. Don't know how much distance it added, but I was not happy with myself. I did a great job refocusing and the rest went well. This was my first race at this distance so I was focused on completing it without having difficulty. Other than the misdirection I am very happy with how I did and felt coming out of the water What would you do differently?: Work more on spotting. Push harder in the swim now that I know I can handle it in race conditions well Transition 1
Comments: Uneventful. Had to be careful coming down the wet grass hill Bike
Comments: Well, I had my first road bike crash!!! I slid out on a wet corner and the rider behind me ran up on me (nice bruise and scrap on my shoulder from his front skewer). He and I got up quickly and got going pretty quickly. If you are a BTer...sorry. Other than that it was a great ride. going uphill and into the wind sucks but the payoff was the downhill on the back section. Course got a little crowded with the sprint racers. What would you do differently?: I need to push myself harder on the bike. HR ave was 143 at 19.9 mph ave. There is no reason I can't ave 21+mph. Still trying to figure out the balance between the three disciplines. Always scared I use too much and bonk later. Transition 2
Comments: No problems Run
Comments: Lungs felt great the whole race. Legs felt a little heavy but not bad. Really felt it in my feet. Here is were I really need to work on my mental game. I focused on maintaining an ave around 8.5/ml. Although I walked some (hills, water stations), I ran the last mile at around 7.5/ml. What would you do differently?: I need to focus on running longer distances in training and working on my mental toughness. Post race
Warm down: WATER. REST. STRETCH What limited your ability to perform faster: Two things. First, poor pacing. I could have done the swim and the bike faster. this was my first OLY (not counting Disco) and I was focused on a balance race. In hindsight, I could have pushed more and still been fine. Second, mental toughness. Especially on the run. I need to push through discomfort more. Event comments: This is my third PlayTri event and I think they put on a great race. Woke up at 4:30 ate and headed out. It is always great to get there early and set everything up. Rechecked my gear layout 3-4 times and talked with my rack mates
A very structured milling about. Stretched a little, walked a little, jumped a little, you know a real technical routine
