Pre-race routine:

Event warmup:

I wanted to swim but decided against it. I didnt' want to stand around freezign for 20 minutes after.

Comments:

hard swim
What would you do differently?:

I am excited to swim all year this year adn just have more strength for this next time. I plan to skip shoulder surgery this year! :)
Transition 1
  • 02m 6s
Comments:

T1 was hard in the rain!! Mark came in and yelled Hi. that was fun. I was so glad he was there too!! My suit got stuck adn I had trouble with my socks in the rain. I couldn't see adn wasn't sure what to do about glasses. I was a bit out of it from the swim too.
What would you do differently?:

No socks in the rain!!!
Bike
  • 1h 15m 18s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 19.80 mile/hr
Comments:

I'm not sure of my rank in the bike. I pushed it this time. IT felt good. Another woman that I hoped to challenge passed me at mile 8 and that was a downer. She is amazing. I hope to bike like her some day. I had fun otu there until my hands froze and I couldn't shift gears!!! I wondered if others had this problem. I kept getting stuck in the middle wheel. I was stressed that I'd lose my chain but I managed to do ok adn make it in without a problem.
What would you do differently?:

Well.....I just need more bike experience! I feel good about how I've improved since last year though.
Transition 2
  • 01m 40s
Comments:

I was frozen. My hands would NOT work at all. It was no longer raining but my socks were drenched so I decided to change them...big mistake. I could not use my hands to do that or tie my shoes. SLOW!!! I fiddled with my race belt as I left T2 and my hat. I coudln't clip that on either!
What would you do differently?:

SPeed laces +/or no socks!!! This stuff is where experience pays off!! I would skip the hat too. IT was raining and I didn't need it. It's just habit.
Run
  • 43m 10s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 06m 57s  min/mile
Comments:

When I started, my feet were numb adn felt like rocks. However, my left arch was burning. No clue why?! I felt slow and tired but I just hoped to find my groove. Mile 1 was 7:45 adn that seemed good. Mile 2 6:40 and I thought it was marked wrong. Mile 3, 4,5 all stayed aroudn the same pace so I was thrilled. My feet came to life around mile 3 and that was a painful process but after that I felt strong. I was relieved and thrilled since I really pushed teh bike. I was testing myself to see if I could do this.
What would you do differently?:

I was pleased with the run.
Post race
Warm down:

Just stood around and talked about the race with my brother, Jeff and Rob ( so glad you guys said HI!), my husband ( great 1st Oly TRI honey!), and friends Mary adn Petra.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

THe transitions were surely slowed way down by my numb wet hands and feet.

Event comments:

Great race!! I can't wait to be back next year. The venue is great despite the weather this year. There are lots of great people and I was happy to be part of it. I was very happy to see JEff adn Rob right near me at Transition and to meet Jeff's family. Great job guys!!

Overall: 33/600?
Performance: Average
Suit: sleeveless
Course: Brrr!!! I should have had my full arm suit on! The sleeveless feels so much better on my shoulder but I was Freezing!!! I felt totally devoid of energy when I started. I was worried. What was this about? I was stroke for stroke with the girl who ended up winning ( I knew who she was and wanted to stay with her) but when I turned to the left to sight she Took OFF!! Just like that. Oh well. NExt time I guess. :) She almost beat my brother out of the water adn he was the first overall swimmer! She is amazing. Anyway, my swim was challenging. I tried to push it but found myself gulping lots of water and whackign arms with a girl the whole way. I didn't have trouble sighting or with the currnet though. I felt it start to pour and the chop increased. I was glad to be done.
