Swim
Comments: I grew up swimming a lot (swim team etc in the 70's) but have not really done anything for 30 years. I spent about 9 hours in the water specifically at this park training and by race day I had a lot sorted out. I was really pleased I did as well as I did considering that when I signed up in Feb I just hoped I would actually finish! I think I have talent or bodytype for swimming (5'10" 145lbs). I was not really even tired. I had fun really. What would you do differently?: Get out in the first line of swimmers. Despite being in the second row (or so) I had to crawl over other swimmers to get my place. Transition 1
Comments: This was a disaster. Being new to this and all I lost my head. I could not find my socks. My bike shirt got tangled in my arms or something and I spent way to much sorting that out. I also took on liquid standing still when I could just have well done that on the bike. Duh! Must have had water in my brain. What would you do differently?: Practice this more. No liquid at T1. Bike
Comments: This was my strength as I've been into time trials for the past two years. This course is also home turf. I know every hill. I had a few other 40 year olds that were with me most of the ride. Great racing and we did well not to draft despite numerous passes. Bike was a Cannondale Multisport 700si (Orange) with Zipp wheels. Tri bars and shifters on the aerobars. What would you do differently?: Drink more on the bike. I only drank half a bottle. Also take gel. I was killing my run and did not know it. Transition 2
Comments: Finger were cold making lacing and tying difficult. What would you do differently?: Use tri laces (or whatever they are called). Run
Comments: I was tired. I had run this course as a brick at 6:52/mile a few weeks prior after a 1:12 bike. I expected more like 7:00/mile. Still happy enough as the other legs were great. Maybe they took more out of me than I wished. You can not have it all. What would you do differently?: Drink more on ride and take a gel. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: I really think I did as well as I could. I'll need to train more than 4 hours per week to move up in the order. Event comments: Wicked Good. I'm running the Maine Marathon in a few weeks. This was certainly good mental training for that. Hello to forum readers who were there. Last updated: 2007-09-17 12:00 AM
